We cannot prove the Bible is true, but it is! :o

After 30 years of reading it and 20 years of studying it, I read it every day and attend at least 3 meetings a week for bible exposition, so yes, I too believe it to be true.

Good on you.

And I mean it. ....At least you have an anchor.

The varasity of your position will always be open to debate, but at least you have something to hold on to in a world full of crap.

Thanks, suiging. Believing the Bible sure beats believing in the bottle.

I believe in myself.

I don't need a bottle, book or "higher power" to tell me how to live my life.

When I reach an intersection in life, I'll use my experience and judgement to decide which way to go.

If a Pope tries to tell me it's sinful to use a condom, I'll buy a dozen.

If an Ayatollah tries to tell me eating pork will dam_n me to hel_l, I'll "pig out" on a delicious baked ham.

If a monk tries to tell me the path to Enlightenment is through Poverty and Celibacy, I'm heading down-town for a wild night !

Am I going to H3ll ? Hades ? Reincarnation as a flea on the underbelly of a rat ? What ever it is (or nothing at all I believe), when the end comes I'll have lived my own life, my way.

No one to blame for my errors but myself, no one to take credit for my successes but myself.

Nice one kerry. Accepting responsibility for ones own actions and the consequences is the right path to choose. You and I have more in common than you could ever know...

No one to blame for my errors but myself, no one to take credit for my successes but myself.

Although I agree with most of your above post, have no others contributed to your successes, they certainly have to mine, as well as the reverses, although I have taken them on the chin :o

My response is Off Topic Tigs, but I am afraid it was never going to stay on it.

At this stage I'm accepting of the fact that this topic is off topic. The reformation of Israel is a wonderful example of God's will being fulfilled, however, I should have known that it wouldn't have stayed on topic...

I should have known that it wouldn't have stayed on topic...

Tommy Bowe scored a good try tonight :o

Perhaps that will draw the discussion to a close

Good Luck my friend

Most of you know I am a christian and that I believe the veracity of the Bible. I found this very interesting website. It's full of interesting information, but one page, which for me proves the veracity of the bible, is on the Jews. I believe the Jews and the reformation of Israel is core proof that the bible speaks the truth. Have a look and tell me what you think.

ps not a thread for venting your personal prejudices please!

http://www.theevidence.org.uk/accurate4.htm

The reformation of Israel is not proof of anything. It was decided by world powers to give the Jews a homeland, and the plan was put into action. It didn't happen by divine providence. It was willfull decisions taken by mortal men after much prodding from the Zionist lobby.

The original plan was to have a two state solution, Jews and Palestinians, but the state for the Palestinians never materialised.

look at the United Nations General Assembly Resolution 181, which was passed by the UN General Assembly in the late 1940's

I must admit there are some good stories in the Bible, but not enough to prove anything

So you didn't read the link then?

So you didn't read the link then?

Wooohooo ! :o

I never even noticed the tabs on the left side ! A quick glance was all I needed to see that I will have loads of fun picking apart some more parts of that site (maybe starting with Daniel's prophecy of 4 kingdoms to follow after Babylon).

But at the moment I have 3 other things on the go concurrently so cannot devote the time needed to do the task as it needs to be done. Sorry suegha, you'll have to wait a wee bit longer (I know you aren't holding your breath in anticipation) ! :D

It might not be "proof", but it is pretty darn close to a miracle.

The state for the Palestinians "never materialised" because they have turned it down over and over again from the time that Israel became a State. :o

I agree that it is indeed miraculous!

ps to kerry, I am holding on with bated breath... :o

pps it's not my site, I just found it interesting.

As far as I can see the existence of the state of Israel is more to do with military supremacy and having the right friends (earthly not divine) than religious reasons.

I wonder that as more and more Cubans find their promised land in Florida whether the US will eventually give them their own country there? Or do they need those Republican votes too badly? :D

The Cubans are quite happy to live with the rest of us, and have done very well as part of the melting pot.

I LOVE Cuban girls! :o

Apparently the former residents are heading north in droves to avoid being part of the melting pot.

The former residents were mostly elderly Jewish people from New York who have gone on to other levels of existence.

I firmly believe that God will use whatsoever it takes to fulfill his will. If this be military, friends in the right places, the weather or whatever - all are in his control.

It's like the old joke about the Christian in his flooding house who believed the Lord would save him. The floods were rising fast when a boat came by offering him a lift, he said 'No thanks, the Lord will save me.' He's now trapped in the upperfloor of his house waters rising fast when a speedboat pulls up offering him a lift, he says 'No thanks the Lord will save me.' Finally he's on the roof of the house beacuse of the water when a helicopter offers to hoist him to safety, he once again says, 'No thanks the Lord will save me.' Then as the waters continued to rise and he starts to drown he issues a prayer saying 'Lord I believed you would save me.' And the Lord replied, 'I sent two boats and a helicopter, what more do you want!?!'

If it's the will of the Almighty it will happen.

When I was a soldier in Vietnam, I prayed to multiple dieties if we were under mortar or rocket attack. This included God, Jesus, Buddha, Mohammed, Confuscious, and "The First Sergeant in the Sky." My thinking was that the more dieties I included in my prayers, the better the chance that one of them would be on duty and help send that incoming mortar round just a little short or long or a little to the left or right. It also helped that the NVA mortarmen were usually just firing harassment rounds and wanted to get the hel_l out of there before we found them and chewed them up with our firepower.

The point of this is that obviously someone was listening...and to be honest I have thanked all of them many times over. None of us know for sure which diety looks out after us...I believe something or someone does but I don't know who it is. I do know that for most of us, just feeling that there is something that we can turn to in times of great need helps us get through the tough times. But who, or what it is, is one of life's great mysteries. And for those of you who think you have all the answers to this universal question, then please send me a postcard when you get to the afterlife and let me know how you like it.

I firmly believe that God will use whatsoever it takes to fulfill his will. If this be military, friends in the right places, the weather or whatever - all are in his control.

This is exactly what I think. It doesn't have to look like a miracle to be one.

Are you sure you guys weren't advisers on "The Life Of Brian"?

I can just see you getting those Christians to sing "Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life" while they were nailed up on the crosses.

Very funny scea, however, on a serious note I believe Romans 8.28 applies "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose."

That doesn't mean that everything will be 'seemingly' good, belief in God is not a rabbits foot, but that in all things God works for the good of those who love him. So whatever life sends my way I accept it in faith.

Congratulation to Ssuegha for using an accurate translation. The subject is God, who in all things works for the good of those who love him. Not that everything which happens to us, like civil riots, is good, but that God is working through those things for good.

Of course, only c. 33% of the World's population is Christian. That puts me in the other 67% of the 'wrong'.

Yep.....That's 67% of people who can not see through to the " good" intentions behind battering a young child to death.

I wouldn't have even thought it was that much!

Can't understand the point you're trying to make here mate?
