Where To Buy Quality Beds In Or Around Buriram

We need a couple of beds and if I was still in Pattaya I'd go to Home Pro or Home Works or even perhaps Index but in Buriram where can I go ?

I'm not buying one from BigC's car park or some of the rubbish you see in the Thai shops where it could be anything. I see a Home Pro in Korat but anyone know anything else ?

All options considered.

Thanks

In Korat when you drive direction KhonKaen 4-5 km after the big bus station there is an Index (Living Mall ?). They have a lot of good quality beds (massive wood) and of course a lot of other furniture.

We bought our bed there and they did not overprize us for the transport to our house.

If you are looking to purchase furniture brands sold at Home Works, Home Pro or INDEX quality or major name brand mattress such as Serta then Buriram Furniture can order any of that sort. They are the authorized "dealer" for Koncept and Index. I have my own opinion of that sort of furniture, but Buriram Furniture gave us a lower price on a mid level Serta Mattress than any of the large shops in Korat (even before delivery) including the multi "dealer" many authorized brand shop down from the Korat bus station. "Living Mall?" That four story shop had higher prices than "Do Home" hardware store on a specific model of safe. I did not price any household furniture at that Korat store.

In Buriram is a Farang owned furniture shop next door to a bakery that has been mentioned previously on Thai Visa. I have seen the upstairs workshop with nice tools and they make custom furniture. They were too busy to meet the deadline we had for furniture, but worth checking out in downtown Buriram.

I hired and was very happy with a Bangkok trained Thai craftsman "Khun Lek", to build three beds and some other built in furniture. He made all our furniture including beds in our garage and it seems well constructed.

Perhaps Khun "AR" might be the owners Son of Buriram Furniture. Office number is 044-611038 His mobile might be 081-2661665. His first price on the specific model Serta Mattress was sky high and I told him the price he had to beat from Korat and he came back with a lower price. The sales floor staff of his shops did not seem helpful to me, but once I worked with the owners Son real catalogs of many brands came out and prices were more realistic for that type of furniture. His family are MAJOR home and shop house developers and landlords in Buriram and surrounding communities. For what we still wanted Neo House in Korat had lower prices and better quality than Index in my opinion.

I can also HIGHLY recommend Neo House in Korat for low cost custom furniture made to your specifications. They have a terrific design team, send via e-mail specifications, used the paint, stain, fabrics we selected in Korat at their design center inside a large Hardware store and delivered our purchases free to Buriram Province. One of the four owners, Khun WINYOO STITVIDA speaks and understands English. It was easy to phone him with any changes along with e-mailing to his design staff. They have at least two sales staff who speak English and they have a large air conditioned showroom on the LEFT side of that huge Store near Thailand Immigration Office on the outskirts of Korat.

They have beds built in their Korat workshop on sale and on display OR they will custom build what you want at a price and quality level that is superior to INDEX in my opinion. They have a weak selection of mattresses, but an excellent selection of Korat made sofas at a fair price, but better construction than Koncept or Index. The prices of NEO HOUSE are far better than the furniture places in THE MALL and I think you can see the workmanship is superior. They send an excellent delivery staff that fixed any transport scratches.

In the photos the built in furniture was made by Khun Lek and his staff in our garage and the free standing furniture was made in Korat by Neo House. Khun Lek has many plans and photos of beds and other furniture he can show you. His mobile phone mught be 081-546 9494. He does NOT speak English, but my wife did not mind being a translator for his project at our home. Neo House has designs with photos they can show you in person or e-mail to you.

Khun Lek made the wood bar at Book and Bed restaurant, but did NOT do the granite for that bar.

I know what Index 4-storey building you mean. It is on the left hand side when you come from KhonKaen, Phon..

Ours was on the left hand side when you travel from Korat and then to KhonKaen. If there is any better in Buriram now then it is very good. You know Buriram some years ago. Well ! :o

PS !

What I want to say is that solid wood and good workmanship is important. Not the vendor.

PPS.

The wood furniture we purchased from NEO HOUSE of Karat is solid wood. But I was wise enough to listen to our home builder, look at many examples in Buriram of custom wood beds and furniture built locally by Khun Lek. It is all good quality Plywood and Veneer, NOT solid wood. The reason was durability and cost. In my opinion "name brand" furniture from Index, Koncept, and the brands sold at Home Works, Home Pro and such retailers are primarily "MDF HDF" wood that does not last in this climate. I did not have the budget for a Teak Bed. Not only the brand of metal fittings, but the "line or quality level" of a brand such as Hafele make a difference in the drawers and cabinets. None of our furniture is "warped", none has expanded. EVERY HDF or MDF furniture or door I have ever seen has expanded or warped in Thailand. Even "name brand" wood doors such as CITY DOOR have needed extensive work since they seem to rush the kiln or air dry or curing process of wood doors in Thailand. In my opinion a "name brand mattress" might be built in Thailand by a "license" to the International standards of the famous name from England or the United States. Sort of like the European or Japanese brands of beer brewed under license in Thailand.

You might consider plywood and veneer constructed furniture and cabinets for long service life at a fair cost. HDF or MDF is a "poor bargain" not worth the money in my book.

Thanks for those replies, much appreciated.

I personally think Index is a rip off and pretty crap but ......

What I really want are beds like this which are the same as I've had manufactured in my London properties for over 10 years. http://www.alphabeds.co.uk/proddetail.asp?prod=alph012colour Different sizes to the picture of course.

Now for mattresses, has anyone heard of anything decent in this country ?

I have these again from Alphabeds http://www.alphabeds.co.uk/proddetail.asp?prod=monmouth and they are superb. Most of the rubbish I see in Thailand I have never heard of.

So someone who could actually sort out that joinery would be ideal, as long as I can find someone who can supply a decent mattress.

Many MAJOR American and European mattress brands are sold and manufacturer (under license) in Thailand. National Bedding Company of the United States owns the master License to SERTA brand and in Thailand check out www.sertathai.com

Hilding Anders Group a major Swedish company, owned by Candover Investments has a plant to make SLUMBERLAND brand mattress products in Thailand. This same factory also makes SLEEPMATE, STARRY NITE and VONO brand mattresses for sale in Thailand. Check out www.slumberlandthai.com

www.jaspalhome.com or www.sealythailand.com shows what products are made in Thailand under license including SEALY mattresses. Jaspal and sons has wide distribution in Thailand.

The phone might be 02-987-8000

You can always go to www.eguide.co.th and search for mattress. Good source for phone numbers of the company headquarters in Thailand.

I think that SIMMONS brand mattress products are made under license in Singapore, but I could not see if they were readily available in Thailand.

If you phone the headquarters in Bangkok of the mattress brands you are considering they can give you the information on authorized dealers in or near Buriram.

There is a Thai owned company with a large factory in Kohn Kaen called Darling Mattress. If you look at the web site www.darlingmattress.com you will see they claim to be the supplier to the Oriental Hotel, Dusit Thani, Le Meridien, Shangri - La, and Novatel Hotel. You can also buy some of the lines of this company at Buriram Makro. If you research the "lines" made by each brand in Thailand it is not hard to find and buy a good mattress for a fair price. I often think how much of the cost of a product in Thailand is due to the "License fee"?

I am not sure if NEO HOUSE PRODUCTS has a web site. I've used the following e-mail to contact design staff [email protected] and one of the partners e-mail is [email protected] His phone number is 081-879-9394 he speaks English. The store is HUGE and near Thailand Immigration office on the outskirts of Korat. The store number is 044-465-888 The address is

555 Mittraphap Road Khokgruat Muang Nakhonratchasima The store is open 8a.m. to 7p.m. seven days a week according to the sales brochure. You can see the custom designed and already built furniture inside the store on the left side in an air conditioned showroom. The design staff is across on the opposite side of the building in an office area with several computers. It was my experience to show them a photo from a magazine of what I wanted and they did a mock up on the computer and quoted a price sent to me via e-mail. They do have a liberal delivery policy.
