I Think The Only Way Out Of This Is For The Pm To Step Down

Featured Replies

This situation and the way it is handled has shown Thailand is not ready for democracy. While it's true the PM was democratically elected. He is in an impasse. If he is voted out the so called Reds will be furious. If he stays the yellows will erupt. The yellow side has shown enormous power and capability and I think it would be foolish to simply brush them off. I don't say this admiringly I say it as a matter of fact. They have brought Thailand to it's knees and those capable of stopping it, the police and armed forces have showed they are complicit. If the PM steps down he can claim he is doing so for the good of the country. I think this is the closest both sides can come to winning and the closest both sides can come to saving face. Thailand has shown, perhaps wisely they will not forcibly evict the protesters. We don't need or want two angry mobs to settle this. Maybe I'm overreacting but I am very worried and fear for my safety. If I could easily leave the country I would already be gone. Right now I can walk down my part of Sukhumwit and it's as if nothing has happened but I'm not foolish enough to think nothing is happening.

So what is the alternative to democracy - even its stumbling infancy ? No (growing) pain = no gain.

China is not a democracy and they are doing pretty well. Why pretend Thailand is a democracy when it never has been? It's a Fiefdom following 18th century logic with a few 21st century toys to dress it up like it's part of the modern world. If they don't like who is elected they have a coup. It's like punching in the secret code in a video game because you can't get the high score. I for one do not want to get shot or have a limb blown off by a bomb because of people's political grievances. I doubt my suggestion is going to happen, only I think it is the most peaceful resolution.

Only way is to settle this once and for all. Anyone believe if PM steps down this will resolve anything? Same shi*e will continue to happen over and over again - let them duke it out. Everything else has failed to this point.

tomorrow the parliament and the government might be dissolved, so the PM is saving his face by not resigning

DAAD said they will blockade the courts and not let any of the judges in. Granted the courts are not very impartial - obvious where they lean.
