if u have a 5 year licvense u can do 30 days before and up to 90 days after

and it must be done at the office as they take ur pic and all and then give ya a license good for singapore, malaysia, cambodia, Nam and Laos in english and thai

It does cost more thou as i recall it was 500 for the license for 5 yerars plus 250 or so for the card and pic

Richard, my 2nd 1 year DL is set to expire this month. I want a 5 year DL but they tell me no...only one year DL are available now.....???? This is gettting cumbersome. Every year prepping all the documents, taking the test and getting the certified proof of address from the Embasssy...then before you know it....it's time to do it again. Thoughts?

Never heard of a 2nd never mind a 3rd 1 year licence I was under the impression that its one year after the initial test then 5 years after that, what office are you using?

You sure they have this right? I'd check it with the Transport Dept head office if it was me, sounds like another lets change the rules just for the Falang to me.

Something lost in translation maybe?

If I recall correctly, you can renew a 1 year license BEFORE it expires and get another 1 year license.

However, if you want a 5 year license, you must wait until AFTER the 1 year license has expired.

So when they told you "only 1 year available now" they may have meant "only 1 year license available today", i.e. that you must wait until your 1 year license has expired before you can get the 5 year license.

You are 100% correct..if you renew your 1 year before it expires, you get another 1 year....it has to be expired before you apply for your 5 year, could never quite figure out the logic on this one...but thats the rules...
