Linux Compatible Camcorder

Featured Replies

I'm going to replace my old Sony digital 8mm camcorder, which never worked on Ubuntu, and didn't work very well on Windows either, for that matter.

So I thought I'd get a HDD camcorder. I've read that if the camcorder has a firewire connection, there should be no problem connecting to my computer. But I don't think I'm going to get a chance to try it before I buy it.

Does anybody have any advice/warnings on a brand?

Assuming that your computer has a firewire port (most PCs don't, all Macs do) the best advice is to google for 'Canon XX231sdwty linux' or whatever the model name is and see what turns up.
