Are The Anti-pcers As Big A Pain As The Pcers?

Featured Replies

It seems that some people have appointed themselves devout enemies of political correctness.

They scour every form of media until they come up with something they consider to be an attack on personal freedoms and with glad cries display it to the world and invite condemnation.

Woe indeed to he or she who dares to suggest it's just good manners or typical of the delightful dottiness that countries like England have amused the world with for centuries.

My point is, if anyone is wondering, or indeed still reading, is that these people have become as big a pain in the arse as those who demand that Urdu be made the joint official language of the UK or that Mullahs be given equal time at the Vatican.

Edited to demand to know why the ThaiVisa system automatically deletes capitals in topic headings unless they are at the beginning of a word.

Do YOU think that the word "women" should be changed to "womyn" to keep radical feminists feeling cheerful? :o

  • Author

It's not illegal NOT to use the term though, anymore than it is to address a letter Mrs or Miss rather than Ms.

I've never heard of alternative spelling being illegal or 90% of the board members would be in jail. :o

Whatever you do, don't call them girls!

(should ladyboys be ladymen?) :D

We have an opinion, but decided not to reveal it.

In answer to the original question: Are The Anti-pcers As Big A Pain As The Pcers?

Yes

Only if you strongly support political correctness. :o

Nope, I find zealots of all kinds to be most annoying and very unrealistic.

esp. when they go on & on & on & on about the same particular topic like a broken record :o

or when what they are complaining about isn't actually political correctness or if it is, has little or no impact on anyone at all :D

Or when they constantly promote PC, but pretend to be above it while not fooling anybody but themselves. :o

Absolutely. Extremism is the potential death of the species. If everyone could just sit back and accept that we are all different and have varying views on each and every subject perhaps, just perhaps, we could get on with sharing this galactic jewel we inhabit instead of trying to destroy it.

When you cut out the stupidity and ask what has PC deprived us of the answers are somewhat lacking in substance. Our children perhaps can't sing Baa-Baa black sheep at school any more, we can't collect bits from jam jar labels and get golliwog badges any more. This is hardly a portent of the end of the universe is it?

How many parents still sing nursery rhymes to their babies any more? Very few, most preferring to switch on the tinny auto baby-sleep electronic trash sounds whilst they rush off to watch the next episode of Big Brother.

How many would still collect the vouchers for their golliwog badges? Virtually none, very few people take breakfast and those that do will eat the cheapest supermarket jam available anyway.

I think I've said all that before so I'm guilty of going on and on. :o

But there are some areas where PC is necessary and some where it verges on the ridicuous and even dangerous. We as sentient human beings should be capable of differentiating between the two and making a reasonable judgement. That being the case whether we are pro or anti PC.

has the removal of it had a major affect on your life or infringed your rights in anyway then?

It is a nice story that does not hurt anyone. Banning books infringes on everyone's rights.

If it doesn't hurt "anyone" then why do black people object to it? Is it possible that it doesn't hurt you, as a white male but that it does hurt black children by what it represents?

Just because you deem it harmless, doesn't actually mean it is harmless to others :o But then that's the whole problem for the anti pc people imo, they are unable to empathize with others or look beyond their own needs.

Oh & Phil I agree 100%. My comment about going on & on is in relation to the dragging up of some so called pc gone mad subjects which when looked into with more detail prove to have no pc agenda at all :o Just get boring is all.

Of course they are. However they are less all knowing, less self righteous, less self important, and less wrong about the subject. :o

A pox on all those who have any degree of all knowingness, self righteousness, self importance or less wrongness.

Does that mean that George's willy now has spots on ?

Many would say it was difficult to see the willy for the spots.

Many is no doubt on his way into Gaza. Lucky really, being that rude will get you banned.

I have never, ever heard any black people complain about Little Black Sambo. They are usually not that sensitive, nor that shallow.

I have only heard pseudo-intellectual white people whining about a cute little story that does nothing wrong other than mention a little boy is "black". It is one thing to "emphasize" with other people and another to make up problems that don't even exist in order to show how caring and clever you think you are.

The black people I've met could care less about being called black, but they have a really big problem with being called "niggers" - the term has always been used hatefully. However, most of them don't want to ban books by Mark Twain - they don't want to ban any books at all. They have too much common sense for going down that slippery road to Big Brother watching over everything. They are no fans of PC. :o

Race is one area where I prefer to err on the side of PC. I wouldn't use any racially offensive term even in jest. A member said something once about blacks using the word nigger amongst themselves without offence but would anyone consider doing that to a stranger?

If I found a good friend relaxing and drinking beer in comfortable surroundings he may even accept it as a compliment if I called him a bludging bastard... particularly if he was Australian; but if that guy was my employee and it was in a work type situation he'd be extremely offended and rightly so.

Sambo is an archaic term which I haven't heard for years and seriously doubt that anyone could walk up to a group of African Americans who he did not know and call one of them Sambo without considerable risk to his personal well being.

And rightly so.

I, for one, would love to see the video of UG walking up to a group of black people and calling one of the group (or, if he's feeling really daring, everybody!) sambo. :o

I don't know where you come from, but in most big cities in America, you would not call a big group of African Americans anything - including African Americans - without getting the same results.

Hello Mr. African American... yeah sure! :o

I take great offence at being called White. I want to be called a "Person of Pinkish descent". Why don't the PCer's from the darker skin ancestry, lobby for me?

You could always change your name..........Mr Bo Person Of Pinkish Descent Jangles, has a certain ring to it.

There was a Lily the Pink once.

Just call me Pinky

I think she was related to Paul McCartney's brother. :o
