February 5, 200917 yr As meadish has pointed out, by tagging a protected forum you are opening it up to search engines and someone then clicking on it will be given an error message. So, please no tagging in protected forums like Bedlam and Out of the Box, thanks
February 6, 200917 yr I wonder if this posting warrants a "3 Day Holiday", or just a rap over the knuckles.
February 6, 200917 yr Actually it turns out I was wrong. In reality, the tags in Bedlam will only show up for members with Bedlam access... so it IS ok to tag in Bedlam. Sorry for the confusion caused, and keep tagging.
February 6, 200917 yr Author It was meadish that led me astray, I swear! (better not repeat that to his wife )
February 6, 200917 yr I'm still confused - what is meant by 'tagging' (is it just inserting the link to a page somewhere)?

A strip of leather, paper, metal, or plastic attached to something or hung from a wearer's neck to identify, classify, or label: sale tags on all coats and dresses. The plastic or metal tip at the end of a shoelace. The contrastingly colored tip of an animal's tail. Sports. A bright piece of feather, floss, or tinsel surrounding the shank of the hook on a fishing fly. A dirty, matted lock of wool. A loose lock of hair. A rag; a tatter. A small, loose fragment: I heard only tags and snippets of what was being said. An ornamental flourish, especially at the end of a signature. A designation or an epithet, especially an unwelcome one: He did not take kindly to the tag of pauper. A brief quotation used in a discourse to give it an air of erudition or authority: Shakespearean tags. A cliché, saw, or similar short, conventional idea used to embellish a discourse: These tags of wit and wisdom bore me. The refrain or last lines of a song or poem. The closing lines of a speech in a play; a cue. Computer Science. A label assigned to identify data in memory. A sequence of characters in a markup language used to provide information, such as formatting specifications, about a document. Slang. A graffito featuring a word or words, especially the author's name, rather than a picture: “Instead of a cursive linear tag, Super Kool painted his name along the exterior of a subway car in huge block pink and yellow letters” (Eric Scigliano).
February 6, 200917 yr I am a little confused on how this helps, I have just done a search using the forum software: sole custody visa forum the scouser Got a good thread and tagged it 'sole custody'. Then did another search for sole custody using google, it wasn't on the first two pages and another search using the forum software, only this time just using 'sole custody' and all forums and no specific user name. Again not on the first page. So can anyone make things a little clearer on the search thing?

I am pretty sure google takes a while to cache the information so while your additions are instantaneous, google doesn't add them right away.
February 7, 200917 yr Some links to study: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tag_cloud http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tag_(metadata) I don't know yet exactly how admin visualize the use of tags on Thaivisa so not sure there. But it will provide an alternative, intra-site search system. I am not sure whether Google will pick the tags up or not.
February 8, 200917 yr Interesting. Have the mods been requested (directed?) to tag the sub-forums for which they have primary responsibilty?
February 8, 200917 yr We've all been told to add as many relevant tags as we can, all over the board, not only within the specific subforums.

February 11, 200917 yr Tell me to teach my granny to suck eggs, but the current approach to tagging would seem to lend itself to both duplication (inefficient) and omission (ineffective). Would it have been too difficult to charge mods with the responsibility to address specific sub-forums or areas thereof, perhaps with an approach of doing the most recent threads first and then working back over time? (On the other hand, would this tend to leave the board under supervised?) I note that the competition for the general membership is similarly unstructured. Has a procedure been put into place to maintain currency over the long term? On the other hand, given that the above is so obvious, perhaps the project is not all that critical and a 'something is better than nothing', economically achieved, result is the aim... E: Clarification
February 11, 200917 yr Tell me to teach my granny to suck eggs, Would I? but the current approach to tagging would seem to lend itself to both duplication (inefficient) and omission (ineffective). I would beg to differ here, although I am still at odds at the merits of tagging, but I am sure it will come, what better way than to highlight posts than with mass participation and editing from a smaller group. If there is duplication, if it is not swept up by the few, and it is purely a search exercise, what is the harm, you get two hits on the same thread instead of one, what it might do, is highlight differing key words of a particular thread that individuals identify with. (On the other hand, would this tend to leave the board under supervised?) Perhaps, kids in the play ground as such and the present 'frothing of the mouth' over the Nation, crickey how my life is going to change. I note that the competition for the general membership is similarly unstructured. Not sure of the intent here. Has a procedure been put into place to maintain currency over the long term? Now that is a problem, however is that not the case of any search engine, currentcy? Good points though, just not sure if I agree with them. Good luck Moss
February 12, 200917 yr Fair argument, Moss. The 'merits of tagging' point is one that I'm unsure of as well.
