Legal Software

Featured Replies

Any thoughts on if legal software is available in Thailand for prices that aren't several thousands of baht more expensive than in the USA?

Not looking for something specific, just Windows XP Pro and Office 2003 really.

Or: Is there anyone reading this who owns a legal license for any kind of Windows or Office and who wants to sell?

Cheers,

Chanchao

If it's just WinXP and Office, then a lot of stores will have the OEM version in stock, and the price won't be that expensive. Just ask around.

Asked around in the computer malls in Chiang Mai and most looked at me as if they saw burning water. :o

On the web, I found:

> Microsoft Microsoft Office Professional 2003 English CD (Box)

> 24,306 BAHT (VAT included)

That's insane. Indeed an OEM license would be just fine. They go for like $ 284 online in the US. But all of those stores want to ship something to a US address only.

(See: http://www.directdeals.com/Item_OEM-OFF2K3P.aspx )

That's HALF the price of the cheapest I found in Thailand so far. Are there places selling OEM licenses for a fair price?

Cheers,

Chanchao

With these prices BSA and friends wonder why there is so much sw piracy in Thailand!!

They are there own worst enemies.

I asked around for OEM prices. Windows XP pro is around 7,000. Office 2003 basic (not pro) is around 8,000. Office might be a bit harder to find, but I've seen places like Hardware House have WinXP stocked in their glass display counters.

Thanks..!!!

Is this the 'Hardware House' you talk about : ?

If Office basic is 8000 then Pro can't be that much more expensive.. If around 12K or so then I'd definitely go for that.

Chanchao

Yes, that's hardware house. It's got stores everywhere, including the provinces.

Thanks!! In searching, I also found www.pantipprice.com. They have Office Pro XP OEM for sale for a more reasonable 13,400.00 Baht. It's Office XP though, not Office 2003. But prices are getting more reasonable, so that's a plus. :o
