Fishing In The Lake At Khon Kaen

Featured Replies

i was wondering if anyone has fished the 600 acre lake there.if so any size to them.did you catch very many there.thank you for your input.have a nice evening.

moving this to Issan :o

Edited the title for you.

This will put it back on page one.

In my opinion any kind of water in Khon Kaen would have been drag nettet and most of the fish eaten. Issan people do not fish for fun they fish to eat. Rod and reel, nets , anything as long as they can get the fish out and take them home.

lite beer do you live in khon kaen.i need to look you up and we can have a beer when i get to thailand.

Lake in question is Bung Kaen Nakorn - very close to the centre of Khon Kaen, to the South East I beleive.

When I was there in 2006, there is good fishing to be had, and many Thai's do so. In fact a number of them contribute to their living by doing so. I don't know the names of the fish but there are quite a few edible. Most of the fish I saw caught were on the smaller size. The bigger fish were real ugly and were poisonous to touch and to eat. When the Thai's caught these they were usually angry and disgusted. Most of the fishing I watched was on the South Eastern side of the lake. This is the fishing part as to the north is sectioned off for the Pedalos.

The lake does get restocked as well. I remember sitting at the Chinese temple outdoor (?) to the north end of the lake and saw hundreds of thousands of fish being put in. In fact I was offered to help and put a few in myself.

Best way to find out about what is there is to go watch the people fishing there and ask them or just ask if you can watch. There is a food and beer service that comes around to. Food is basic and beer is normal price, if you get Thai price.

I haven't fished there and don't know the cost or the rules, if any. But did spend many a nice afternoon watching the sunset and the pagaoda on the side opposite and watching fishing.

I believe it is possible to rent a rod and reel and buy bait for around 10ish baht a session, but I may be wrong and this was a few years ago...

HTH and good fishing !

khun bob, thank you for replying.maybe can look you up when i come to thailand in july.have a nice evening or day.

Fishing has been banned for the time being in the lake, I think due to a lot of the fish dying a few months ago.

I think they would need to Dredge the lake to clean it up

There are lots of plastic bags everywhere around Thailand & they all will end up lakes and rivers
