International Schools Roi Et

My wife & I have decided we would like to relocate back to Thailand, but still have no idea as to the available options with rergard to international schools in the roi et area.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, even recomendations as to Thai schools running an ESL programme as our daughter has been @ school here in u'k for a few years now, and we would consider her going to a Thai school so long as there was some exposure to the english Language.

Thanks in advance BK

Hi and welcome!

I have recently settled near Roi Et and have been looking at schools for our six year old daughter.

First of all there are no "international schools" as you can find in Bangkok and a few other large cities. There are government schools and private schools in town and some of these offer an "English Language Program" or something similar. You pay for these and entry is competetive in some cases, even for the little kids. You don't say how old your daughter is so I can't be more helpful to you at this time.

For what it's worth, after visiting the government primary school's ELP we decided against it and will be sending our daughter to the primary in the small town where we are living. She is fluent in English and we speak this at home so her need is for Thai language and culture. We felt that she would get this more easily in a more relaxed educational environment than the more pressured ELP.

Happy to discuss this further by PM if you like.

I live in Surin and my daughter goes to the Holy Infant Jesus School (Pratuman) in Surin. It is run by an order of Catholic Nuns, together with other teachers, and I am very happy with the learning environment that the school provides. It is very caring, warm and friendly and all the staff are 1st class. It is a small school with about 350 students between the ages of 3 to 12 years old. English is taught although there is no English Programme as such. School fees are about 12,000 Baht per year.

While I do not have first-hand knowledge of the sister school, I do know that the Holy Infant Jesus School in Roi Et is a much larger school with some 3,000 students. From what I have been told by the Sister in charge of the Surin school, I understand it is run along similar lines and has a very good reputation. It has its own web site all in Thai together with a map of its location in Roi Et. I think that it might be worth your while to include this school as a possible choice for your daughter. :o

Thanks for the answers guys, much as I expected.

I didn't think there'd be an international school, but would be happy to settle for an ELP @ thai school as our daugter(6yrs) is also fluent in English having been educated in the UK thus far.

We've been in UK 5 yrs now, having moved back to give our daughter the benefit of living in UK, but it's becoming more and more obvious that we'd all be happier living in Thailand again.

I should confess that we'd actually be living nearer to Mahasarakam, but seeing as you've both mentioned options in similar areas I guess I don't need to worry so much. Knowing our luck the local goverment school in Borabu might have something on offer, just have to get back & start investigating.

Can anyone remind me of the long school holiday in Thailand?

Don't know the exact dates, but roughly mid-March - mid-May
