Decent Torrent Client

Featured Replies

I've been using Utorrent for a long time, but am constantly getting "error" messages such as "Invalid torrent state", "The process is being used by another application", etc. Restarting the computer doesn't help, nor does deleting the torrent and starting again. Any suggestions for better torrent programs?

Perhaps a better torrent tracker? I have used that software for years and have no issues - works great. I suspect errors and such are more bad torrents/tracker if you have the latest version of uTorrent. You aren't using another software; such as a downloader, by any chance that could be in conflict?

Try Free download manager. It can handle torrents as well as be used as a download manager. Also try and have a look at the free software available on File Hippo (File sharing) and you may find something you like. Personally I like Ares.

If you are using uTorrent, do not use any version over 1.6.1 as uTorrent got sold to the authorities, by the author.

If you use any bittorrent s/w use peer guardian 2, it stops you connecting to p2p spies who are likely to contact your ISP...

I use Vuze. Used to be called Azureus. Found it does everything I need. And its free :o

You come up with such information you should provide the board with the source of your information! At least you should explain something, specially to which "authorities" it is sold to.

I personally treat that statement as far-fetched. So, please enlighten all of us.

Thanks

webfact,

BitTorrent Inc bought uTorrent in Dec 2006 (source Wikipedia), last non BitTorrent version was 1.6.1 (filehippo.com for this version).

I have run many bit-torrent clients, and always use PeerGuardian 2, if you monitor the logs of 1.6.1 of uTorrent and compare with those of 1.7.x and 1.8.x uTorrent definately calls home to BitTorrent Inc.

If you look at the partner list of BitTorrent Inc (all media companies, obviously) I would wonder how closely BitTorrent Inc is in bed with with them.

I personally treat that statement as far-fetched. So, please enlighten all of us.

Thanks

Thanks for clarification! I appreciate!

I wasn't aware of that either. One site even mentions it was bought by MPAA which is associated with BitTorrent. :o

Used utorrent for years with piratebay and never hada problem.I always download the update for Utorrent too

I am aware of uTorrent selling out, but always use it, its one of the better clients out there, it doesn't leave a big footprint on your resources. Also living in Thailand, I don't give a monkeys who is keeping tabs on what I download.

uTorrent is excellent. But I'll stick to 1.6.1, mainly because of a long history of paranoia.

Scenario. Thai authorities cave in to MPAA et al, decide to make an example, hey presto, look, who has internet at home, farang. Hmmm. This is easy, lets make an example of farang, no Thais gets prosecuted but bad farang give Thai's a bad name.

You know its true, farangs are always the guilty party.

Jeez, I have to take more anti-paranoia tablets, again.

E

uTorrent is the ONLY client that is on the List of ALL private trackers as preferred torrent software.. some private trackers will BAN you if you use anything else.

Something here is just not logical.... Private Trackers are the most paranoid of all !
