Best Bond Movie Soundtrack Ever

Featured Replies

Just watched on cable ol' Sean Connery in "Never say Never again"

and was just wondering to know about what was the best Bond movie soundtrack ever?

I know, it is a matter of taste but mine is, without any doubt, "Live and let die"

whats yours?

Live and Let Die, admittedly brilliant, is just topped for me by Shirley Bassey's Goldfinger. Just can't beat the way she belts that one out. Also, John Barry's incidental music in all the Bond movies is some of the best ever made.

Live and Let Die and Goldfinger is the two that instantly came to mind!

Has to be Live and Let Die. Guns 'n' Roses did a great cover of it.

For mine, 'From Russia with Love'. Both the instrumental and vocal (Matt Monroe) versions of the main theme are excellent. John Barry, who wrote much of the music for the early Bond films, was a brilliant composer. As with all the early Bond pictures, the movies themselves are showing their age, but the music is timeless.

I like the old bond movies though. A tad chauvinistic at times, but tongue-in-cheek. I part watched the new one, and was a bit weird for me, seeing Money Penny going all retributial on Bond about his sexual conquests. Wasn't that always part of the ingredients which creates a classic Bond movie. That and the innuendos. The new one just came over as another action movie to me. I got bored, and stopped watching. :/

(is retributial the right word/spelling..hmm. Nvm..dont mean to take the thread off-topic anyway)

Agree with you, eek. I used to love the old ones, and they are still watchable, but there is no doubt they are showing their age (as I see it). As you point out, some of the things in the old ones that are not PC today were integral to the Bond character and enjoyment of the film. As with you, I find the newer batch of Bond movies to be 'just another action movie'.

LALD yes...

..but also For Your Eyes Only and Die Another Day (in the later where I thought the theme was better than the movie).

Another one I liked was Nancy Sinatra singing 'You Only Live Twice'. The song charted to number 1, as I recall.

As far as action movies go I think Bruce Willis took it to another level with the Die Hard series. Of late The Transporter series has stepped it up a notch. I wonder when Hollywood is going to revisit the western. Perhaps not while Clint Eastwood is still alive.

Chimpy

:o

:D

Not only off-Bond-topic, but not even about a song or soundtrack. We'll have to change the name of this place from Bedlam to Pandemonium. :D

(BTW they did reinvent westerns, Chimpy - Clint Eastwood in 'Space Cowboys'. But I understand that the baked beans around the Lunar campfire scene had to be cut due to an oxygen problem.)

Ohh..love Carly Simon. Her voice. Wow! (I love 'Coming Around Again' particularly..and of course, 'You're So Vain')

sibey, i enjoyed the Die Hard movies, i think because there was some compassion/human element..making it more female friendly..? (Mind you though, im a bit of a gamer (no comments pls), or at least i was..so maybe that influences me to like quite a few action movies..?). However, Transporter 1 & 2, although amazing stunts etc, i found them a bit Zzz. For me was overkill. As though the director was thinking, how much action, special effects, stunts, explosions, drama, etc, etc, etc, can i fit in one movie. Like he wanted to top all others. or maybe its just too much of a "guy movie" for me to really appreciate. :o

Oops..ive just taken it off-topic again.

I like Diamonds are Forever with Shirley Bassey

As a side note, anyone noticed that doing a Bond soundtrack is like a death knell for alot of performers/groups. Immeadiately after doing a bond soundtrack they dissappear from pop music charts, radio play, disintegrate as a band etc.

Live and Let Die.  Without a doubt.  Of course part of that is because that movie was the scene of my first real date and the first time I ever felt a breast in a romantic situation. It still makes me feel a little excited when I hear the music!  :o

'A lot'? I don't think that's correct. They were mainly singers/bands of renown at the time they performed and were still enjoying the fruits of their careers after the movies, at least in most cases. In Lani Hall's case, it may have even boosted her career - she went on to win a grammy in '85. Who/which bands are you referring to specifically?

Bondism

"we don't need the music, this breast isn't savage"

It has to be live and let die.

More recently though when I hear the song I think of the frog King dieing in Shrek the Third. Very sad.
