My True Visions set-up allows me to only view the programme that is showing and the one coming on next.

I must admit i was under the impression that this was the same for everyone. But i was recently at a mate's house and was surprised to see that his on-screen TV guide could scroll into the next day's viewing and beyond.

Is it to do with location i wonder or is it down to the receiver they give you?

Mine used to be the same as yours (through a dish), but since I moved and switched to cable, it's like your friend's. Not sure if this is because it's cable, or because it's a different receiver, but I would suspect it's the former (or a combination of both).

Thanks for the reply.

Funnily enough mine is cable (i've recently switched - the dish i had before also had the limited tv guide) - and my mate has a dish. So it would seem to be to do with the receiver box they give you - but why they all don't offer the same spec is strange (not to mention annoying!)

Ah, definitely the receiver then. How long ago did you switch? I moved about six weeks ago, that was when I got the new box. I didn't ask for it specifically or anything, they just turned up with it, but I was well pleased since the old one is truly rubbish. Maybe worth a call to them and tell them you want the new one. They can only say no (which they probably will, or demand some kind of fee, or pretend they don't know what you're talking about, or tell you "UBC is not available in your area," despite you already having it)...

I switched about 6 months ago. I might well give them a call but as you so rightly say, i'm probably just setting myself up for a merry-old dance. :o Thanks for the feedback anyway MK.

Me too. My decoder is about 6 years old.

I download the schedule file from Truevision's web site and extract the dates and times of the programs I want to see. That's fine until the end of the month, when the b*ggers don't update the file until the 1st of the next month so, for a time, I only know one program ahead.

Example of EPG on Truevisions. Some channels show all programs coming up in the next 24 hours other channels show hardly anything.

I used to check the scheduling from the website, but the new website, (of three days) is designed by a moron.

I can see the programming on the TV for (several?) days ahead, but I use the old receiver. They brought me a new one when one of the old ones conked out, but I found the situation you're describing made it useless, so I asked them to return with the old type. Suggest you do the same

Just been looking at their new website and have to say i agree with you. I found the programme search very difficult to fathom. The old one was much easier.

Interesting. Wonder why a new receiver would have less functions than an old one. Doesn't make sense!

Sounds like you are not even receiving the True Visions magazine Jetset. Why is that?

Same here - new receiver only shows next programme, old one showed +24 hours.

Still, with all the repeats, the 'next programme' is most likely the one currently being shown.

This is "True" - very little makes sense.

I have the PVR and it goes out 8 days. Perhaps your friend also has one.

Thanks for the suggestion OMR - but i can confirm that he definitely doesn't have PVR.

Oh, I'm definitely getting the magazine. It fits perfectly under my electric grill, so that's where it lives. It absorbs any oil drips, can be slid out to rest the hot grill pan on and is easily cleaned by ripping off a few of the outer pages. :o

Strange, my one - 6 years old "DStv ABS-8976" - has only ever shown the current and next programme.

Maybe your "old" one is newer than my one. (Make and model numbers might be useful here. :o )

OMG :D They've totally overhauled and fukced up the web site:

1. Both Firefox and IE go to 100% CPU usage on that site

2. The "English" button did nothing on Firefox so had to switch to IE

3. I can't log in using my old username and password so tried to re-register, but nothing happened when I clicked "Confirm".

4. I can't find the "ubcschedule.zip" file that had all the listings in it.

I've sent them an email. What a load of plonkers. :o

Whilst i agree that the magazine is crap in most respects, one can't deny it does have the TV schedule in it, even if it might not always be completely accurate. I can't understand why you would choose to be downloading files and printing off pages from the internet when the same information is there before you in the magazine. Please enlighten. :o

Hi Rixalex - what I actually do is feed the "ubcschedule.zip" file into a program I wrote that extracts the dates and times of all the programs I want to see and creates calendar files (.ics files) for each day. I then load the calendar files into Sunbird (a Mozilla schedule program) so that while I'm at the 'puter, a reminder pops up 5 minutes before each program.

The program also allows me to add individual events, so it looks like I'm going to have to develop that part of it, or maybe find a way of extracting data from the web site.

Thanks for the answer Jetset.

My goodness me! I am impressed! You've certainly taken the art of TV watching to a whole new level there!

Surprised you haven't been tempted to go the PVR route though.

I just successfully logged into the changed True Visions site with old user name and password. Had a tough time finding the English language link (it is on the bottom of the page) and next to a box to select where you want to go. Click on English and it will take you to the English version of the site.

Once there I found that I was no longer able to use any of the Online functions and sent an email to true so informing them,

Just for drill I thought I would check out my profile and sure enough it needed updating and after completing the update information on the form presented I again went back to try the ONline services link and this time was able to get at the billing information etc., even though the page has changed dramatically.

So, try again and good luck to those of you that have had problems getting to the site. I suspect they are in the middle of a huge site renovation and typically of True do not bother to let anyone know what they are doing.

I just tried again to log in with both FF and IE - still no good. Maybe they are slowly copying over the database from the old site to the new, and your details have been copied? I wouldn't put it past them!

Managed to get CPU usage down below 80% by specifying Low Quality for the Flash settings. :o

This is the sort of problem you get with web sites designed by idiots who are using the very latest PCs with powerful processors and lots of RAM, and probably no ADSL between them and the server. They simply don't think about what their customers are using (or care) so long as the end results looks pretty so that they get paid.

I found the "English" button OK, but it did nothing in FF. Or possibly FF was so busy using 100% CPU processing the Flash, that it did not register the click on the "English" button. Both times it worked with IE, but still couldn't log in.

Different recievers seem to have either 'next show' only (couple of hours) or a day or so..

The DVR subscribers can get a week.. I know theres a hack on the dreambox configs to allow the 1 week EPG info.

But UBC's EPG is so sucky anyway, I hardly use it.

I agree, EPG is rubbish, i want to know what repeat EPL football matches are on, and all they give you is match number, they cannot be bothered to type the teams in. In 2 years have had 2 new recievers when the old one's went wrong and each time they got worse. When had UBC installed could see programs for week, then 2 days, now next show. I dread this one going wrong, probabley whats on yesterday :o

I find the workmen who repair or in my case replace the reciever to have the biggest attitude problem i have met in Thailand. They come to the house, no smile, eye contact, wai, sawadee krap or kiss my arse. Gone in 5 minutes, girlfriend others them a coffee, get a grunt. Leave me each time to change to English language as default ect. No custemer care, just i could not careless. Through that all i smile, nod and keep jai yen. Had TOT come to the house many times concerning problems with Ipstar, but they are always very polite and helpful.

I agree that is very frustrating. When Premiership was on ESPN and Star Sports, it was always listed in the magazine which games were repeated at what time.

As you say, the service from True Visions seems to get progressively worse. If only we could find a way to go backwards in time we would be sorted!

I finally managed to log in by signing up again - using IE, not Firefox, as the "English" button didn't work in Firefox. I can actually log in using Firefox now, but still the "English" button doesn't work.

So after logging in I sent them a message via the "Contact Us" page. They usually are very quick to respond to messages they receive that way. They usually don't respond at all to messages sent by normal email to their email address.

Let's see what they have to say about the missing "ubcschedule.zip" file. Maybe some <deleted> thought: "This is an old UBC file, we don't need to maintain that any more because we are now TrueVisions". :o

Posted

I got a response:

"We have to be honest to you that we are still working on some parts of the website.

As we have checked on the website found no zip file; however, you can download online magazine at http://www.truevisionstv.com/club_magazine.aspx"

I'm now working on a suitable reply to tug at their heart strings and make them feel guilty about not producing the zip file any more. :o
