Work Permit

Recommended Posts

just a quick question to you experts (indosam?)

i have my old work permit from when i worked with an NGO here in thailand 2003. My school is now doing the work permit for teaching.

My question is this.

Will i be in trouble for not handing in old one? will they even know i had the old one and still have not handed it in? also will this prevent my school from getting me the new one?

Before its asked as i do know the name of the school can help, the school is considered one of the best private schools in Thailand. thanks for the help all.

When you sign your work permit application, you are attesting that all is true. A whole section of the application is about listing previous work permits. If you sign off on application stating that you have no prior work permits, and they EVER find out that you had an earlier permit, you aredoomed - deportation, and blacklisting.

So - what you need to do is take old work permit to Labor Ministry. They will scold you, and give you a special document that you must then take to the nearby police station, and pay your fine - 1,000 baht. You then take receipt from paying fine back to WP office, and they close out your work permit.

Then, list this closed-out work permit and job on your current WP application.

Make and permanently keep a copy of your old work permit - you will forever need to be able to report its serial number, issue date, cancellation date, etc.

If you would feel more comfortable having an exprienced Thai walk you through the old WP close-out process - my company can take you through this process, and do the talking for you. 1,500 baht, and you pay for transportation. Contact either Khun Beer, or Khun Ant, at 02-260-3914. We've turned in WP's that were more than 3 years past expiration - still just 1,000 baht.

Good luck!
