After 4 1/2 years in Thailand i have returned to Blighty!

it was a very tough decision, but Buiness was just no good in thailand, and i could not just sit there and wait for the country to kill its self, with me included !

i have new plans lined up in the UK, and i hope to be back to thailand soon for a holiday ( if they promise the 50 % airfare and hotel cuts )

anyway, means i will not be around in the forums that much,

you have all been great with your advise and help

we moved back to Uk 5 years ago & contrary to the moaners & folks who complain that the UK is going down the drain or "isn't like it was when I was a youngster" the place is fine. Expensive but then majority of the world is too. There are opportunities here that you just don't have in Thailand & you have a lot of security in the UK in terms of legal position, property etc which you don't' have in LOS & the ability to work at any job without jumping though silly hoops about WP/visa etc is also a plus. We are thinking of making a move in the nearish future & LOS was on our list but even Mr Boo is thinking about other places within the west rather than relocating back to LOS full time. Thailand isn't the be all & end all nor is it some Utopian paradise.

It is a pretty difficult place here at the moment Boats, Start Ups fairly difficult, Finance Houses being fairly economical with their lending for obvious reasons, bank to bank exchange rates fairly tight, the Motor manufacturing is in headlong retreat and property has flat lined although possibly bottoming out at the end of the year.

Repossessions only being controlled by low interest rates, redundancies rising and an increasing distrust and ambivalence towards the Governing iniquitous elite, but apart from that, everything is alright!!

Good on you Boater for making a decision and best wishes for a successful relocation.

Expecting to make a decision either way myself in the next 3-6 months. If I was single I'd probably tough it out in Thailand, but married with a family I'm leaning towards a return home for a few years.

Once left, as Boo says, Thailand may not be attractive enough to lure people back again.

yes i can see, but its the same in Thailand, at least in the UK i have a free house over my head and food to eat.

I just hope thailand starts to recover, but i am hereing daily stories of friends losing jobs ect in thailand, and it aint easy finding a new one....

There's a 100,000 fee to put down so that you can get on to the gravy train. (Recoverable in the first week of claiming expenses), but you'll have to think up a name for your party that doesn't include Labour, Conservative, Liberal, Democrat, Union, Sinn Fein, Independent.
