Hi Guys,

Mate and I want to come up from BKK to have a look around for a weekend. The pair of us have lived here 15 years between us and never been to that neck of the woods.

A little help in locating a decent hotel and pub (we are simple folk; easily pleased) would be most welcomed.

Looking forward to your recommendations.

Thanks in advance.

I'd recommend staying at the Irish Clock on Soi Sampan.....rooms are 850 baht and includes 100 baht English breakfast for 1 person.

They do good food and have some draught beers on tap.

Also on Soi Sampan there are numerous bars and also Nobis Restaurant which is worth a visit.

You are 5 minutes walk away from the nightmarket and also Nutty Park where there are more farang bars.

The City centre shopping mall (Central) is about 10 minutes walk away. They have the usual KFC,Pizza Co.Swensens,Sizzler in there plus cinema and ten pin bowling.

Next door to the shopping mall is the Centara Hotel (formerly Charoensri Grand).Centara have just taken it over but it is in need of refurbishment and a little overpriced at the moment for what you get.

An alternative hotel would be the Charoen Botanical (new wing of the Charoen Hotel, entrance at the back near Yellow Bird nightclub).Rooms are 900 baht.Swimming pool,nightclub,karaoke...cost of saamlaw to Nutty Park,Soi Sampan and Central shopping mall would be about 40 baht or just over 10 minutes walk to each.

Enjoy your visit.

Hi,

I would stay at the Top Mansion just up from the Irish Clock, I have stayed in most of the expensive hotels in Udon and they dont really measure up. I went to the Top Manison by chance its only 350bht a night and has a parking area just up the road.

As suggested there is some great food a Nobis opposite (closed on Sundays) and also good farrang food at the Irish clock.

There is a new bar develpment just between the Irish clock and Top Mansion so you are right in the place for a few beers, Just follow the road around the block and you are at the shopping mall, all the normal farrang stuff.

If you want to head out a bit to eat go to "Good Everything" its a short taxi ride near the Hospiral and one of the parks.. sorry cant be more precise.

Enjoy.

i stayed at top mansion about three years ago , the rooms were clean and cheap but the furniture was a bit basic ( metal bed , tv stand , clothes rail , etc but they may have upgraded the furniture to something a bit better by now.

i couldnt fault the place ( and would go back ) and i stayed there about a week

Just to agree with most others, Steve at the Irish Clock is a genial host and his pub has good value, big rooms and wonderful food. Located in the heart of the "farang" scene (if that's your thing!) Email him to book. http://www.udonmap.com/ is a useful forum and has plenty of accommodation alternatives.

Yeah the Carrefour opened a couple of months ago.. I was expecting the Pattaya style shopping experiene, but come out there disapointed.

Not a great choice and a pretty small shop with staff they have got from down town who dont know much about there goods.

A few different Farrang choices, but overall limited and I think more expensive than Tesco Lotus..

By the way they are building a new Lotus about 500m down the road from the new Carrefour.
