Why Are Jews Hated So Much.

Featured Replies

This is in no way an antisemetic post, rather just a genuine question.

Why?

Is it really due to something that happened 2,000 + years ago? Or is it because they wear funny hats and beards? Because they are as tight as a Scotsman (In which case why aren't the Scots hated)........ Just a convenient scapegoat (But still why?)...... It's certainly not a race thing.

Is there any definitive answer out there as to why the Jews are hated so much, even a guess or opinion would do as I am at a total loss and of course I would love to hear input from a Jewish person.

I think that we would really have to think outside the box for this one.

I think there's a large dose of jealousy involved. They seem to be very good at most things they have a go at. Just look at how many Nobel prize winners are Jewish.

Why you ask this question?

Are you not aware or do you not want to know what some people do to the Palestinian people?

Short term answer there Alex, the jews have always been ridiculed. From 4000 years ago speaking of the Jews...

Deut 8.37 You will become a thing of horror and an object of scorn and ridicule to all the nations where the LORD will drive you.

Deut 28.64-67 Then the LORD will scatter you among all nations, from one end of the earth to the other... Among those nations you will find no repose, no resting place for the sole of your foot. There the LORD will give you an anxious mind, eyes weary with longing, and a despairing heart. You will live in constant suspense, filled with dread both night and day, never sure of your life. In the morning you will say, "If only it were evening!" and in the evening, "If only it were morning!"--because of the terror that will fill your hearts and the sights that your eyes will see.

There are loads more predicting the hatred of the Jews, as God's people they are and have been hated throughout history.

Well yes Alex but how can that equate to hatred of all Jews or do you think people are so simplistic, short sighted and ignorant as to assume that 1. All Israelis condone the actions of their govt and 2. All Jews are Israelis and therefore equally guilty?

I ask because I just don't know the answer Alex.

And as mentioned above it has nothing much to do with the Gaza strip. I watched the movie "from hel_l" last night, which is about Jack the Ripper and at one point during the movie there was an attempt to put the blame on "the Jews" and it got me thinking.

My guess is that there is no definitive answer, rather that as a group they make a convenient scapegoat or something.

Or is it because they wear funny hats and beards?

Although I don't hate them, they do look ridiculous in their get up and it's as if they go out of their way to not fit in. I'm not saying this is the answer to your question as there are of course, other nationalities who wear "unusual" attire.

Come on MrBJ, the vast majority of jews don't wear the traditional attire. It's hard to recognise a jew in the street. In fact when I went to Auschwitz many people addressed me as if I was jewish.

I didn't say that they all did Tigg's. I was just commenting about the one's who do.

Is it anything to do with you being called Isaiah :)

In many senses Christians were an offshoot of the Jewish population (naturally enough, since Jesus was Jewish). There is a lot of evidence that in the early times of the Christian organisation that it was persecuted and underground- the Jews, as a more assimilated population (in the Roman culture) probably contributed to that.

Since Christianity encourages organisation of the underclass/outcaste ("blessed are the weak"- incidentally, this is one reason that colonisation and Christianisation went hand in hand for the pre-European societies which were hierarchical, because it was a good way to divide and conquer the colonised people), and there are always more of them than the overclasses, naturally enough when Christianity came more to power they had a score to settle. Not that good Christians would ever seek vengeance, no, not that!

In terms of more recent European history, since good Christians are not supposed to loan money at interest (go ask a Christian why he shouldn't and see if he knows) any more than he is supposed to eat pork or commit adultery, in medieval times many Jews were forced to take these taboo niche jobs including moneylending- which led to an unpopular reputation for the obvious reasons.

Later problems include the co-option of Darwinism for evil purposes to create hate sciences of eugenics and the pseudoscientific belief in 'races.'

Thanks Mr. Teach, that makes sense.

I asked this same question on a U.K. (Swindon) forum and received this reply:

If the question is about political anti-Semitism then that is a whole different thing. The Jews have historically provided an easily identifiable and often geographically focused community to scapegoat for 'extremist' groups to rail against easily in heterogeneous Europe. Sometimes the anger has been based on biblical or economic factors but quite often the Jews of Europe were the latest wave of immigrants to arrive and so targeted for that being exactly that - See coming over here and taking our jobs. European history is littered with massacres of Jews – Britain in the 12th century as well as France and even Spain. (I think, I’m a bit sketchy on some of the dates)

The Russian’s have a special word for it – pogrom. It has become a generic but really it means a riot aimed at Jews. And it was often used politically by the Tsars as a way of focussing public anger on a minority, instead of them. The same tactics were also used against the left across Europe hinting at Jewish intellectuals being behind many leftist governments. See Hitler, A.

In British history, the British Union of Fascists used anti-Semitic rhetoric in the 1930s although there is (relatively) little sign of leader and toff Sir Oswald Mosley personally believing much of it – more that it was so ingrained in the membership and their target audience of the urban poor and disengaged. Now we see the same thing with Griffin and all his little wizards but the targets change (although I’m sure if you dig deep enough he would still blame the global Jewish conspiracy for the fact that he is a gammy-eyed prick).

Or summit like that.

When strung together such answers/explanations (even guesses) over can begin to form some sort of logical pattern. Not it is acceptable, just that I can see the puzzle coming together.

Charles is one of my Idol's, I never expected him to be brought into this discussion and I thank you for it. I must sleep now though.

^That was the whole idea behind Hitler's master race. Just like the Iron Cross was Hitler's version of a Christian symbol. He was an equal opportunity perverter of good ideas.

Jews aren't hated. If you look at the entertainment industry alone you can see their popularity. Like many people in mainstream society, you wouldn't know they were Jewish unless you were told. (Do Sammy Davis, William Shatner, or Sarah Michelle Gellar strike you as typical Jewish stereotypes?)

Test your Jew spotting abilities here: http://www.guesswhosthejew.com/

Some stereotypes of Jews are disliked (pushy, money grubbing, etc), but anyone who thinks this is the norm for Jews is a fool.

I think true anti-semites are an aberration. Something about them is just wired wrong. Ignorance can play a role but at some point when intelligence dictates that your prejudices are wrong but you ignore it and still choose to hate, something has to be wrong with you beyond basic stupidity. Then there's a whole other class of people who have grown up in a perpetual cycle of hatred that they simply don't know any better. Few people who have grown up in Palestine or Israel can remember a time without wars or tit-for-tat killing that nobody can remember who started. With both Jews and Palestinians being semetic peoples I suppose you could say it's bred generations of anti-semites on both sides of the conflict.

I think the relatively low level of anti-Semitism today is only thanks to the constant monitoring and efforts of Jewish people and empathising groups (including gays, who had our own special place in Hitler's camps) worldwide to raise awareness since the end of World War II. Remember that at the turn of the last century- a mere 100 years ago- the Dreyfus affair still had the power to polarise all of Europe based on their prejudice towards Jews or lack thereof, and that kind of ignorance and hatred is what led up to pogroms and Holocaust.

I agree that the situation is better today, but historically, 'hated' is not an unfair description of the opinion of many mainstream groups.

Nice to see you around again, Cdn...

Jews, are regarded in many cultures, as the descendants of Caine. Caine ( it's believed) was begat from a union between Eve and the serpent. (eating of the apple) (serpent seed)

The Kabbalah sect is one prominent (of late) proponent of this belief.

Some scripts say that the two bloodlines later intermingled, "Children of god" begatting the Nephilims...Etc

Some scripts say the "children of god" weren't the descendants of Seth, But Watchers. (Angels)

I tried to study it in my late teens......but got bogged down. Too many dead ends.(sic)

Jesus referred to them as "Murderers" in his temple diatribe. (Caine murdering Abel)

But yes, Jews have been reviled through History. Mostly though, by Muslims and Christians. Which would suggest history itself plays a major role.

Their preponderance to gravitate to controlling trades (Money, diamonds, credit, (usery?) furs, anything of "real value" (as the world sees it)) will always bring them into conflict in times of shortage.

My Ex-wife is Jewish, therefore my 2 brilliant children are half Jewish. My son denies this, as he is still "hooded" :):D

Regards.

This happens to others in similar situations. One could say that the Chinese are the Jews of Asia. They've settled all over the world, often as merchants, and traders, and their relative wealth hasn't always sat well with the locals. Their recent expulsion from Tonga is one example.

The Nephilims.

Having not read the bible myself, the first time I stumbled across this term was when reading about David Icke. For those who are not familiar, David Icke is a wacko Brit who believes that the world is controlled by a half lizard/ half human alien species. Icke's work has many different names for the "alien's" and Nephilims is one of them. I never quite understood why he so often referred to the Jews but now I see why.

Nephilim (note not Nephilims, as 'im' at the end is plural) just means giants, nothing mysterious. A tall race of people.

Why you ask this question?

Are you not aware or do you not want to know what some people do to the Palestinian people?

Do you really think that most of the world have any love for the Palestinian people? Many of us feel sorry for them, but their unfocused violent ways have hurt them much more than helped anything. They really are their own worst enemies.

Most other Arabs have always looked down on them and simply use them as pawns against the Jews. :)

A distinction has to be made between Israel and the Jews

People have a problem with Israel because the country has a cruel streak and on an individual level Israelis are a pretty annoying Mediterranean people with some unsavoury traits

People have a problem with Jews because they are self-serving and sometimes untrustworthy and dishonest.

I don't think anyone wants to see this develop into another Israeli vs. Palestine discussion (that would be rather off-topic). I do believe the question stretches back MUCH further, and the politics of the Middle East would have little to do with, for example, the anti-Semitism which has existed (and still exists) in America among different elements, or the vast pre-Israel historical anti-Semitism of Europe.

Here's your post with a few changes to more clearly expose the blatant negative stereotyping with racist undertones, for anyone who missed it.

A Jewish take on the topic:

It has been said that the history of almost all of the Jewish holidays can be summed up succinctly: "They wanted to kill us; we won. Let's eat." Why has anti-Semitism been so pervasive in so many countries, in so many time periods and for so many reasons? (One begins to wonder. Perhaps there is something wrong with the Jews and Judaism? After all, there is an old Yiddish saying -- "If one person calls you a donkey, ignore him; if two people call you a donkey, buy a saddle.")

Between the years 250 CE and 1948 CE - a period of 1,700 years - Jews have experienced more than eighty expulsions from various countries in Europe - an average of nearly one expulsion every twenty-one years. Jews were expelled from England, France, Austria, Germany, Lithuania, Spain, Portugal, Bohemia, Moravia and seventy-one other countries.

The name of this thread is, "Why are Jews hated so much.", but there is no problem with that and

"blatant negative stereotyping with racist undertones" is OK if it is about Americans too.

Who is fooling who? :)

Is it really due to something that happened 2,000 + years ago?

According to (some) Christians, they committed deicide.
