Nearly everyone has an irish passport! :D

asked the Mrs to check whether there's an irish one amongst our passports. she checked and said "no". what crime did we commit that deserves that severe punishment? :)

I think to get the passport by descent, you can only gain it from your parents or grand parents. Maybe it was your great grandparents who were Paddy's. Hence, you miss out by one generation. T'be sure, t'be sure :D

Or if you went there for a long weekend! :D

I used to visit Dublin every month or so for a few nights away from work, I don't remember any of it :)

Used to be able to buy them at your local friendly consulate.

(Now it's a 7/11)

Yes, Kelloggs used to give them away in corn flakes packets, but only the ones they sold in Wales, Tasmania and New Zealand...

The Aussie focus groups had trouble getting the boxes open. :)

PRobably been discussed/mentioned before, but i dont recall anything in Bedlam on it...anyway..

Sometimes im really taken aback by the antagonistic and/or hostile posts in Thaivisa (and of course happens in other forums too.).

Do you ever wonder what the hel_l is going on? Do you ever goad a bit yourself? :)

Sometimes I dont get why people are quite so venomous at times.

Whats your take on it?

Any thoughts?

Eek, there certainly are some interesting social dynamics that go on with internet forums, especially TV. I've been reading the Chiang Mai 4th of July consulate party comments and am very surprised by the negative comments. I've talked to over ten people that are not regular TV posters and all of them thought the party was fantastic except for the rain at the end. Not a single complaint otherwise! But if you read the forum, it sounds like it was a bust. It seems like one negative poster attracts more negativity in a kind of legitimizing feedback loop. You are the friends you keep, so maybe just avoiding downward spiraling topics, or sometimes all of Thai Visa, might be in order. To answer your question though, "I don't get it either!"

Or post a positive response? If you allow negativity to go unchecked then does that make you complicit in the hostility?

An ongoing Irish mantra,

If you are not part of the solution, then you are part of the problem, if you are part of the problem, then you will not be party to the solution. ( attr: to many including Bush ) or part there of.

But sometimes, I just can't be arsed.

Although having said that there are some obvious exceptions

Are we going to talk about Irish passports again??? :)

Are they mint flavoured like McDonald's shamrock shakes?

Oooops

The days of the silly punts long gone.

You don't have to be Irish to know this statement is erroneous

No, he said Punts

I used to really hate the thought, but these days, sometimes I wonder if it wouldn't be much better to apply the same rules as some Thai forums do, where you are required to identify yourself with a passport or ID card before your signup is accepted.

These is just so much hostility and vindictiveness online these days, not only on Thaivisa, but pretty much every single forum online, even those about relatively non-contentious subjects, such as gardening, sound systems or guitar playing.

It's as if the anonymity is causing a global pandemic of digital coprolalia, much more contagious than SARS, H5N1 or H1N1 ever were.

on that note P Meadish....

I will repeat what I said elsewhere:

people that post thinking the internet is an anonymous avenue so they can say anything they wouldnt normally say in real life should be barred from voicing their thoughts.

maybe they should be required to have a license. with the test being about sensitivity, basic manners and politeness.

it makes me mad the way people seem to leave common sense behind the minute they switch on that 'power' button and hook up to their broadband and whatever else they use!

Looks like we agree N' Miggy.

No surprise though, I can't see how I could disagree with somebody who appreciates the writings of Douglas Adams and recognizes the all-important power of the Chocolate. :)

:)

now it all makes sense why Ive always liked my P Meadish :D

and no smart comments about me su#king up alright! He already knows that I do so all the time :D

^ :D

was that for me :) I mean that cute but old fashioned looking man? :D
