When i flew from the UK to Thailand, it was thankfully a few weeks after the extreme rules period (when no hand luggage was allowed). So, i was allowed to take my laptop with me as hand luggage, but no toiletries at all. It was a very veryyy long queue at the airport to get through security. Every single thing was checked. At that time baby things were allowed such as formula, so those needed checking. So was a very long wait for us all. Some people were losing patience and tempers. Horrible for all involved, staff and flyers. However, i do understand at that time why the rules were so strict and at least now it is not as bad. I know the toothpaste thing seems ridiculous but well, but at least security measures are being enforced even if it leaves us scratching our heads. :)

I remember the nightmare at Heathrow...interminable queues, short tempers everywhere...and there was fear...the worst part...

you wanted to avoid the place which was difficult to do if you are an expatriate employee...I useta like to travel...no longer. Now I gotta fly back to saudi from BKK thru Germany to talk to sum folks about a job...I don't wanna even think about it... :D

I get to Jeddah 2330 hrs and then gotta drive to site about 90km away...at least there wont be any traffic...

There of course is a reason for all of this "stupidity" at the airports... Philippine Airlines Flight PR434 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philippine_Airlines_Flight_434

Construction and details of the Bomb

Main article: The Bojinka Plot

United States prosecutors said the device was a "Mark II" "microbomb" constructed using Casio digital watches as described in Phase I of The Bojinka Plot of which this was a test. On Flight 434, Yousef used one tenth of the explosive power he planned to use on eleven U.S. airliners in January 1995. The bomb was, or at least all of its components were, designed to slip through airport security checks undetected. The explosive used was liquid nitroglycerin, which was disguised as a bottle of contact lens fluid. Other ingredients included glycerin, nitrate, sulfuric acid, and minute concentrations of nitrobenzene, silver azide, and liquid acetone. The wires he used were hidden in the heel of his shoe. At that time, metal detectors used in airports did not go down far enough to detect anything there.

And this was in 1995...

What you all should really be bothered by is the fact that the liquids rules weren't implemented until recently. Think of all of the planes Yousef could have had his pals blow between 1995 and 2001...

Luckily for the Philippine Airlines flight, the 747 usually used on that route was in maintenance. Another model of 747 that they bought from Lufthansa (most of PALs planes are used) was used for the flight, otherwise the bomb would have been right over the fuel tanks. Instead only one poor soul had his seat blown up and was killed...

Something to ponder on you next flight... Happy Travels!!

It would be interesting to know how many planes Yousef, or colleagues of his, actually blew up with such home made bombs during that period?

I suggest using a sort of lubricant called: KY. Every 7 has it and I have it seen in Vietnam as well.

It is really multipurpose stuff, can use it as gel for the hair, shaving gel and some other purposes that could come in handy when inviting innocent low wage hotel staff in your room for stress relief...........ahum.

Massage that is you perverts!

:)

Waited for two hours on Sunday for a plane back to HK

Not toothpaste but thermometers the trouble.

Seems they wish to take everyones temperature who pass through this major international airport, fine you may say, however they only had two working thermometers for the whole place......Wonderful India.

Unless it's Ramadan - then the roads will be heaving at midnight.

Ramadan ain't 'till the end of next month this year...but the occasion has it's advantages...one can always stop and buy a bag of breaking-the-fast falafels and samosas to munch on while tooling down the desert hiway at 160kph... :)

(it's quite easy to pick up bad driving habits when living in the Middle East...)

Anal?

Wouldn't want to be at the back of that queue.

Your choice - anal or oral.

But it's the same thermometer for everyone.

You see Eek, you are the living proof that the first thing women think of is sex.

Bah!

naw...the first thing women think of is 'romance'...ye gotta put a box of chocolates next to the tube of KY...

:)

(tutsi runs like the wind to avoid female opprobrium...)

Are you serious?

She is one of those "liberated" :D , dunno if you know any, but I can assure you the ones that I ever met were fierce warriors and defenders of the realm.

Imagine Eek holding one of those jumbo tubes of toothpaste in both hands, believe me she won't stop squeezing it until sure that every drop of white sticky (toothpaste) stuff has gone out of it. Then whilst looking in the mirror she claims victory by producing a deep roar that would scare the sh1t out of a tyrannosaurus.

:)

Alex...sumhow I think that eek would prefer to be thought of as feminine and romantic rather than as a thundering amazon...

but that's fer her to say, of course :)

I am sure she is Tutsi, but I could not help thinking of how fun it would be (after seeing her picture where she looks really sweet) to imagine her wild side.

:)

I always liked to watch this series.

I heard today that women spend one year of their lives choosing what to wear!

Try visiting IKEA with the wife. I have heard some IKEA's have on site counseling services available.

Solution for the clothing issue would be, throw everything away that does not make her look nice (leaves miniskirt and tight shirt and just two pair of shoes/boots allowed).

Grmphf........why so complicated look at Xena, very nice clothes and look super.

Alex, she is a personal friend, her dad was my dad's mate.

We used to visit often, lovely gal.

Lovely Kiwi is Xena.

My preference would be her sidekick, Gabrielle.

Really Zpeed?

Can you tell her I want to share my toothpaste with her?

:)

Think i just entered the Twilight Zone...? :)
