Spending two weekends in Dhaka, so I was looking forward to watching Lions/Springboks and lots of AFL action.

The hotel cable/satellite provider changed all channels last night. No more Australia Network, no more ESPN, the SA Sports channel is showing Wimbledon all the time. And that's it.

Bloody Bunglers.

Still, I'll be going to Vietnam at the end of July, and they had Australia Network during my last posting, so I hope they do again.

Have no fear Humpf

Name the game and after it's finished i'll tell you who won !!

I'll wager there are no Aussie-run bars in Dhaka that you could wander into for the AFL action, among its c7 million folk. Perhaps you should avoid these uncivilised backwaters?

(Anywhere that doesn't have cable access to the AFL has to be uncivilised, in my book.)

There are NO BARS that I know of in Dhaka.

Although the hotel will supply he occasional slab of Heineken tinnies to me, alcohol is strongly discouraged in BunglerDesh. (So is logical thinking, decision making and work in general)

Not to worry - another week and I'll be back in LOS and then off to Vietnam for a couple of years. The only problems there are things like petty theft, which is endemic, and the entire population ridng round on 125cc mo'bikes. This time I'll be near to Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) (Saigon) and able to buy such simple necessities as shaving gel, which was not available in Ca Mau when I worked last in VN. And AFL will be available on cable.

....able to buy such simple necessities as shaving gel

I've always found that some shaving gel creates endless possibilities for entertainment. :)

Best to use Gillette.

Boots supply an alternative in an almost identical can - but it is very greasy and difficult to clean off.

Tried some Japanese stuff when I was in Singapore, but it refused to foam up at all. Very poor.

Have you tried whipped cream?

Or chocolate eclairs?

How do those glace cherries stay in place ?

(Anywhere that doesn't have cable access to the AFL has to be uncivilised, in my book.)

Well that is my place in one, we have regional Television relayed from Wollongong so you know it is going to be top notch stuff :)

Other stations come from Canberra but they insert local ads in the breaks. We get commercials for sheep dip, tractor sales and such like. The problem being that they don't have enough for the break so they do the same as in Thailand and just repeat them .... usually back to back or sometimes back to sides, to front to back all in the same frickin' break. Then they run short so simply cut the ad and jump back into the program.

Cable TV ............ I dream of cabe TV.

Not quite.

A long time ago a Dutch girlfriend descibed one of her evening jobs, where she threw whipped cream and eclairs at a punter (who was of course nekkid) and then licked it all off.

She got more in each evening than I earned in a month.

Ended up marrying a Lebanese oil engineer and moved to Canada.

^ That would have been after she put on 30 kilos :)

No. Very good looking, very good figure. Six foot tall. But not slim from the start.

Must have been one very interesting girlfriend, Humph... :)

This is going back to the early Sixties - from what I can remember then.

Yes, a somewhat wild time, through Uni and after. I was at University College, London and lived in Soho, ran a coffee bar in the evenings.

Many girls, mostly au pairs who had decided that the bright lights were much more fun.

It ruined me for a normal life.
