1986 Bike In Need Of Service..... Any Nudges In The Right Direction?

Recommended Posts

Hello my dear fellow bikers............ (note my sucking up for help?) :D

I have an old Honda GB500.

Its running rough... mixture needs attention....carbs cleaning....oil dropping .....needs a service etc etc.....

Can anyone recommend a decent place to take this old fellow?

I live in the Bang Kapi / Ramkamheang area if this helps narrow it down for the thousands of replies......... :)

By the way...... I'm as posh as most of my fellow countrymen living in Thailand! There was a huge debate about us Brit's in a recent thread...Brit bashing they called it......... I loved every second and hope the offending idiots got the message.

Thanks.....

:D

You can't be that posh mate if the best you can come up with as a ride is a knackered old CB 500. I wouldn't even talk to somebody who rode one. I wouldn't want to lower myself to their level you know :) I'm sure one of your well to do friends will point you in the direction of a good BMW or Mercedes mechanic who knows bikes and can help out. And as a brit I have to ask why you ride a Japanese machine instead of some good old British engineering excellence ? Toodal pip old boy!

The GB400/500 had been styled along the lines of a Brit bike (Triton stylie twin-leading shoe ect). Along with Sr400/500 they are quite a popular Jap classic.

Have you tried here?

23 years old...that's old.

Over the age of consent. That's all that matters. oops...mebbe wrong forum.

I think the GB500 is a hella cool bike. Don't think that alot of them made it stateside, but its looks are drool worthy.

For you British folks, would you mind translating into regular English so the rest of us can understand. Posh? Knackered? Pip?

Try Dr Bike Bangkok in Chok Chai 4 (along Ladprao). They do maint work on the bigger police bikes there and the workshop looks pretty clean. I think the trouble with getting anything done in Bangkok now is finding some to do the work for a fair price. In that respect its difficult to recommend anyone! Maybe you should try and get quotes up front before getting any work done? I think they have a website too; ok I know they are into Harleys there, but they do work on all sorts of big bikes. There is a chopper bike place along Ladprao nearer to the Bang Kapi end, so you might try there. A bit further along before Chok Chai 4, there is another place that sells big bikes, but I don't know what they are like (another TV member bought a bike there and recommends them, though).

Thanks for the help guys.... Ive found someone now, pretty local too!

The bike is fantastic..... styled on the old brit bikes but without the puddle of oil. :D

They are quickly 'checking out' as a sought after classic.......

My other 'new' bikes live outside under cover...... this little beauty lives in the corner of our living room.....my Wife loves me! :D

As for the 'buy something new' comment......................... :)

Thanks again for your comments !

PS ...not sure how to add pics on here.... Id like to show you pre and post restoration!

Anyway .... cheers!
