Pattaya, September 8 [PATTAYA ONE NEWS] : On Tuesday we received security camera pictures from Khun Pairort who owns a house at the Pattaya Reunreung Village in Soi Neun Plub Wan. He has wisely installed cameras around the house and it appears his investment in the security system has paid dividends. In the early hours of 1st September a man was seen looking around the house as if he was about to break in. It appears a second man was involved; however this second man spotted security cameras and informed his friend who saw the camera and made a hasty retreat. Khun Pairort hopes that by publishing this story other house owners will take note and install similar security systems which could save you from losing valuables from your house.

That's a good set of pictures. I'm a big fan of security camera's, often if the intruder sees them from the road even, they may not want take a chance on being identified later.

It's a deterrent at best. A smarter (or more desperate) robber may wear a mask.

Would tend to agree...B 100 face mask and wig combo would defeat a US$ 500 camera system. Only the paranoid would go in for a camera set-up...solid-core doors with quality locks, quality windows (no sliders) and/or window bars will protect better than any camera system. (Could also foam-spray insulation under the roof tiles to "cement" them in place.)

If just the sight of a security camera is a deterrent to a would-be burglar, how about buying some old defunct cameras for a song, and installing them (or just the housing which looks like it contains a camera)? Any source for finding those?

Gosh, maybe for just 500 or a thousand baht, you could reduce your possibility for break-ins by more than 50-75%? Now if our OP isn't altruistic he'll bitch about this suggestion! :)

Only if the burglar is a "Jackass" black Paint Spray does the job or Polyurethane Foam..... and out and over with sirens and CCTV!

Has eve anyone heard or seen, or maybe even owns one of the systems which are installed in the house and confuses the invader with inaudible sound waves which make him disorientated and nauseous?

They actually do sell fake CCTV cameras. There is a security camera store at IT Square (Laksi Plaza) that has them. I didn't inquire about the price though.

We have cctv at our place and in addition to the security they provide (although the key is, you need to have someone actually LOOKING at the feeds for it to be effective), they can also be quite fun, especially when there's nothing on television and you live in an area with decent foot traffic. It's also invaluable when ordering food, as you can lose precious seconds and sometimes minutes of tastiness before anyone realizes the delivery guy is trying to decide whether or not push the buzzer. Burglars are deterred by the cameras themselves, and more importantly with the whole negative feel about the place. Loiter too long and someone invariably walks out onto a balcony or out of the garage or kitchen to see what you need.

If you have your cameras placed where they can be easily spray painted or any of their cables cut, you've chosen the wrong install point. Also, I don't think a requirement of having a system installed is removing any solid core doors, double locks, etc. already installed.
