One of the weirdest promational video clips I have seen. I had planned to go this evening, but some had someone call for some horizontal folk dancing lessons, so naturally that took precedence :D

you better be careful MM, and not be stooping too much :D:D

Just stooped here too, and I think I broke something :)

looking forward to what gotlost has to say about Sportsbar, not that im a frequent patron of any bars around these parts, never the less, i guess we cant complain about the lack of choice of watering holes in CM now, esp when we hear that kalare will be the new beer bar centre

OK,OK,OK I"m back from the new watering hole in CM The Sports Bar. The escalators are working and so are the elevators all the way to top floor. The out side escalator lets you off at the bar level which over looks Chang Klan Rd and the soi besides the D2. He is open for business but is still putting finishing touches in place. The owner is a young chap but not just off the boat. From Holland lived in CM for a while. There are two 8ft pool tables pristine, coin-op, two bars one inside one outside. They have a full size commercial kitchen with food to come, bar munches are complimentary. They have bartenders that are versed in mixology. A very large staff and friendly. Now, what makes a sports bar how about (21) 42" flat screen TV's with the 11 channels of UBC and 8 Channels of Supersport on their on individual screen You can watch multi live venues at the same time. He plans on more. The down side, he only has Singha, Leo and Heineken all on tap solid by the mug or pitcher. Mug Leo 65bt. WHERE IS MY TIGER?? Needless to say we had a discussion about this and the suggestion of other beers this problem he suggested would be corrected forth with. Hours are 11:30-0200. Back ground music is provided and does not knock you out the door. Smoking is out doors. He has put some serious money into this venue and is prepared to make a go. There are some very good pubs/bars /restaurants in CM that bill them selfs as a sports bar, will boys there seems to be a new boy in town and your in for a ruin the scoring line has just been moved. You decide. PS no bouncing bunnies. :)

One of Chiang Mai's premier restaurant owners invited us to the new sports bar at the Night Bazaar last night. He said that it is quite nice - the owners spent a lot of money - but the staff are mostly men, lady boys and bull dykes.

Sounds like a new concept for Chiang Mai! :)

Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think there are too many Gay oriented sports bars around. :)
The place has barely opened so labelling it a Gay bar is a bit unfair.

It's a sports bar and the owner is a married man so he probably didn't think of filling the place with Dolly birds. Maybe he thought that people would be going there to watch sports. If employing Bar men in a sports bar makes it Gay then that would include most pubs in the UK.

Now I also don't want to label so I changed my post but from the start the host, that's a male, at the bottom of the escalator tried to follow behind me. I had to insist that he not get on the escalator or I would not go up.

At the bar the bartender, that's another male, was asking where did I live and where did I come from. There were more men behind the bar.

Now I thought that the place looked great and was quite comfortable besides the orientation of the staff. This is just my opinion. It probably just needs some direction unless that is where it is headed.

Where they obviously Gay?

If the guy at the bottom of the escalator is there to welcome you then I wouldn't be surprised if he led you upstairs to escort you to a table. Common courtesy in Thailand.

And as I said, having a Bar man is not odd, particularly in a sports bar. I was at the grand opening and the barmen were doing a show of throwing bottles in the air when they mixed the cocktails. Maybe they are there to entertain the girlfriend whilst the guys are watching the match!? There were also a few very attractive Heiney girls.

Whether it was a man or woman behind the bar I wouldn't be surprised if the small talk consisted of 'where do you live? and where do you come from?'. Standard conversation in a tourist town.

I'm probably not allowed to say this (even if I don't mention the name) but what the hel_l - I have a guy outside my place to call customers in and I have a bar man, but I've never heard of anyone suggesting that the place is Gay. The Sports Bar is not a Gay bar and since he's just starting out maybe we should be careful about labelling it. After all, some people are homophobic, and think they're being followed or chatted up by every guy they see!! :)

I went to check out this new sports bar last night. The staff were very friendly, the place was comfortable & the drinks were well priced.

I was also shown a list of sports available for the evenings viewing.

Men behind a bar, how very strange, not!! A man to greet you at the door & show you to a table, nice service. Ladyboys working on the floor, so what!! This is Thailand 2009!!

I wish them all the best & I will be returning for the sports, comfortable surroundings & pleasant service.

It's a sports bar, so why feel compelled to label it as gay or whatever else.

I think that you over-reacted a little. Men hosts are quite polite in Thailand and typically will follow you to be seated, not meaning anything more than that. Actually the Goodview and maybe even the Riverside as I recall have all men bartenders and those are not gay establishments by any means.

Agreed.

It looked as if the majority of invited guests to the grand opening were Thai. So if that is / was, the case it looks like they intend catering mainly to the denizens of they realm. "good luck to them I say"

They will need more than that to keep them going. Locals going in with their JW Red or Chivas and only buying mixers.

I will wander by to satisfy my curiosity but I think it will be a one off visit.

Definately not my scene :D

I don't like male hosts following me around and I don't like guys to come up and start giving me a massge when I am trying to take a pee. Call me old fashioned... :)
