Shipping Stuff To Thailand

Featured Replies

I've already started a thread in General about this but I thought I'd ask in here as well as there's a more refined class of poster in here :)

I've got a Thai friend here in the UK who collects old clothes and books and sends/takes them back the Thailand to hand out to folks that need a bit of help. He usually just collects enough to enable him to blag freebie carriage on a Thai flight when he goes back for a holiday.

This time he's managed to accumulate 100 binbags of clothes (he reckons about 800Kg) and 10 cases of books (about 400Kg) and he's looking for a cheap way to ship them. They aren't enough to fill a 20' container completely. Anyone had any experience or got any info on this pls?

I know a very good company that competes very well on price and logistics with all the big companies like DHL, FedEx, TNT etc.

Kangaroo International, 1 David Rd, Colnbrook, London. They have an agent in BKK. See www.superoo.com

Try their courier division, or Kangaroo World Cargo. Ask for a rate.

Thanks for the info. Their website seems to imply that all their services are via air which I think would be rather expensive for 1200kgs of cargo. He's already been quoted £1150 for part-container shipping (by sea) which is pretty expensive for 1 man trying to do a bit of charitable work. I'll get him to call them on Monday.

are there no chairitys that can assist with payment in thailand ?? ... or how about a TV whip around?

He need the help from an NGO.

How much do you think the customs want in import tax. :)

good point poorsucker

He's Thai. He has 'friends' in Customs. Import tax is not a problem.

1.2 tonnes of freight is a hel_l of a lot more than just excess baggage. Even if he could combine it with another shipment it would get mega-messy with customs 'friends' or not.

Unfortunately the problem with international charity these days is that unless it's in response ot a disaster it ends up costing more than the goods are worth.

Finding a reasonably priced shipping company is a lot bigger problem.

Hint ...... Raro.
