Police have arrested 16 ladyboys on Jomtien Beach after receiving numerous reports from the public that they were offering sex and drugs to foreigners in the area.

Pattaya, the 14th of November 2009 [PDN]: At around 00:30 on the 14th of November, Police General Sarawut Bunchai of the Pattaya Police along with a volunteer police officer went out to the Jomtien Beach Road area. The police officers intention was to clear the area of the problematic ladyboys. The Police subsequently found and arrested a group of 16 ladyboys, following the many complaints that they had received regarding the group trying to sell their bodies, sell drugs and steal money from foreigners in the area.

Police checked the records of the 16 ladyboys arrested, finding that most, if not all of them had been arrested on several prior occasions for soliciting prostitution. It was explained to them that public prostitution is against the law in Thailand and would not be tolerated. The 16 ladyboys were then issued with a 200 baht fine each and released back into the public.

Offcourse not, but it is illegal, but so is prostitution as if they care .Anyway if the Bib enforced that law everywhere then half of Pattaya would be hauled into the station everynight. Its just a nice quick way of making some money for themselves,by the way i hate the police here with a passion. :)

can someone confirm what kind of crime they are up to? with a 200 baht fine it doesn't seem like they were selling any drugs?

Prolly too much mascara.....

I have done some investigating about the crime they committed ,I was told that they had been arrested because they were in possession of UN shaved legs :) and wearing loud cloths in built up area.

There are several categories of misbehavior in the eyes of the Law.

Blood crimes (for example murder, rape, etc.) and crimes (burglary, theft, fraud, ...) are the worst - crimes get investigated and prosecuted.

Then come the lesser categories, which are resolved on the spot by the police.

They are called infractions, minor infractions, etc. (very similar to a "wrong lane" or 10 KpH over the speed limit driving ticket) and that's where a 200 baht fine fits right in.

The police found that most of the individuals had been arrested before for soliciting sex, then they were told to not do that. Why didn't the silly police tell them that the first time? Are the police keeping warnings and advice to themselves so that people won't know that they shouldn't do that? Hmmmm... 200 baht a person X 16 = a conspiracy by the police to make money off of unknowing persons!!! When will it stop?!?!
