The Boat

Featured Replies

Went to bed a bit drunk last night. Had a minor tiff with HER because she wasn't in the mood.....got up again, drank some more, got quite pissed and bought a boat on an online auction at about 2 am.

Today I'm suffering from a hangover PLUS buyer's remorse.

Picked it up today....needs alot of work :)

When it stops raining, I'll take some photos.

Ah, a boat.

If you don't spend time with her she'll get real nasty. Sounds like her last owner neglected her a bit so you better to be real nice to her or suffer the consequences.

Told HER yet you have a mistress ?

SHE came home from work before I got home from work, so has seen her in the back garden....but then SHE left to go to her Friday night waitressing job...so we have not talked about "her" yet.

I know SHE will resent her not because of the time I will lavish on her, but for the money spent on her.

I've worked out a plan though. I will say that I will double my money by fixing her and on-selling.

The beauty of the planned excuse (and a salve to my buyer's remorse) is that it's true.

Once she's all beautifull and comfortable.....it will be easier to argue to keep her.

Yah, my boat needs a little work too. I was thinking of selling her.

And I blame Ian, Old Croc, and Scead for posting photos of fish and boats and making me pine for the sea.

Never mind moaning, get the "before" photo on NOW so we can tell you what needs doing.

Good idea!

Have to wait for the rain to stop...and daylight.

I'm an idiot.

After a bit of 'net searching, I've found out that the engine has electric gear shift and dates from 1970.... and since the remote throttle and shift unit is in pieces, and I can see that the gear shift buttons are broken....I'm guessing that parts will be hard to find.

Although the electric shift controls should be simple to mimic (it's just 3 wires: Forward, Neutral, Reverse), I'm feeling as if I want to get rid of it now.

:D:D:D:D:):D

upgrade to a more recent second hand motor. Not too expensive. The engine on her now doesn't seem likely to ever be reliable enough to enjoy safe boating. Shouldn't need anything more than about 70 horses. The rest of it is up to your imagination.

Yeah...it's an option I've considered.

2 things make me hesitate to go that way: 1, The engine is otherwise good. 2. I don't want to break in to my emergency funds AGAIN, particularly since redundancy is a real possibility at the moment.

I'm kicking myself and giving myself uppercuts.

NEVER buy something big when you're pissed.

Since the hull is good, the trailer is good, I will try and sell it after a clean-up. If I'm honest about the state of the engine (which the chap I bought it off wasn't) I should get my money back as it was a good deal nonetheless.

I'll sell it with the idea you've just mentioned.

OK, I can spot a problem now.

You must put the boat in WATER to able to fish.

PS

Picture of her, can we also get a picture of HER?

You wouldn't be happy unless the photo was prohibited by the forum rules...so it would be pointless. :)

unless it's a large Jamesons.

Stick with it Harcourt, you're no quitter and where there's a will there's an office full of lawyers a way.

Dang predictictive texticlemessaging. :)

Nice tree you have..... :)

Oh dear!

As I have got most of my time afloat out of my system now (sail, windsurfing and poserboating), in case you have not before heard this definition?

Boat: A hole in the water into which you put money.

I have not heard the expression, but I certainly can appreciate it.

Could be why boats are referred to as female.

You'll be able to answer that yourself after owning one for a while. :)

(I mean owning a boat, not a female....but if I had to own either I'd choose the boat).

I spent most of my life on boats or ships. Most boats are shes most ships are not. In fact most of the ships I worked on were named after American presidents. Now this one though, definitely a she. Gorgeous:

I used to spend a lot of time around the kind of people who would fund these endeavours. In fact I crewed on a divisional winner of TransPac in the early 80's. Great Fun, but no pay. Food, beer and tail aplenty however..

Well I crossed the mighty Sai Gon in this old tub

and I lived to tell the tale. :)

I kinda like it but only for inland waters.

My nephew got off that boat in St Peterburg, flew to LA and did the TransPac on Alpha Romeo, a New Zealand owned boat. They took out line honours and knocked a DAY of the race record.

His Mum said he's just been home for a few days on his way to get ready for the Sydney Hobart.

That's a fun life. All this stuff is just sooo much more so than it used to be. Sponsors, big big money! It was never for poor folks but it's just gotten crazy now.

But some of these biats they got now, wow! It's like you're flying them and not sailing. That boat in your picture is f'ing gorgeous. Looks like she flies. That's a lotta sail.

House boat....boat House.....mai rue.....

I think I gotta get back there real soon....a couple of beer sings.....some Issan music......and my Thai possey :)

Possey or pussy?

My bad, somehow I must have turned TV spell check off.... :)

Boat lovers know what really matters.

An email from a friend this morning.

Hi mate,

I really need your advice for a serious problem! I suspected for some time now that the missus had been cheating. The usual signs; the phone rings, if I answer the caller hangs up, going out with the girls a lot... I try to stay awake to look out for her when she comes home but I always fall asleep. Anyway last night I hid in the shed behind the boat, when she came home she got out of someones car buttoned up her top and took her panties out her bag and put them on. It was at that moment crouched behind the boat I noticed it... a hairline crack in the outboard mounting bracket.. is that something I can weld or do I need to replace it...?
