So As Not To Divert From Another Thread...

Moved me on several levels.

On the one hand I thought it was beautiful with an inspirational message for all of humanity....but I also got the feeling that it was contrived....as if the dog and the ape were actually quite familiar with each other for some time before the tale begins.

Great clip though!

Don't like monkeys. One at Bendigo Zoo bit me when I was a kid and stuck my innocent little finger through the cage mesh.

Nasty, smelly, flea bitten things.

Good natured hound (and a good looking fella too). Good natured monkey. Were it me, I'd have editied out the humans. Kinda cheapens it.

Cute. No suprise for me. We used to have a pair of boxers. Very family oriented and would protect us very aggressively against strangers but were as gentle as you could imagine amongst us. When the cat had kittens, the male boxer would protect the kittens also, even going so far as to sleep beside their box when mother cat was away.

^ I use to have a dog that sometimes got kittens caught in its throat......nearly choked to death a couple of times :)

I've had 5 Boxers altogether. I wouldn't entertain any other breed.

My family used to show pedigree dogs so I've probably had as much experience with different breeds as anyone.

I agree there's no bad dogs, only bad owners; but some dogs take a special kind of owner to make them good dogs.

Heres an odd coupling of animal friends

8 year old lion, tiger, and black bear raised together since they were 2 months old.

Not entirely true. Some breeds were bred for their aggressive nature and will attack on instinct. They do it for no other reason than that is what they were "designed" to do. Breeds DO act out their natural instincts. For example, you can't keep a Labrador out of the water and all retriever breeds retrieve by instinct, just as pointing breeds point birds by instinct. Fighing dogs fight by instinct. If you CHOOSE to own a fighting dog then don't be surprised if it decides to fight... no matter HOW nicely it is treated.

Agreed, what I meant was that dogs are a pack animal, and therefore obey a pack leader. You have to make sure that YOU are that pack leader and not them.

Mind you, my dog does what ever he wants, so I'm a terrible dog owner. He's only small though so the damage is minimal when he slips up.

Oh no, endure!

How typically English.

I have a cousin at Lytham St Annes and first visited him in 1989. I went for a walk one morning and came across a nice little park near the seafront. I took a seat on a park bench that I noted was of better quality than the others and noted a small brass plaque on it.

Donated by Mr Smith in memory of Rover and all the lovely romps we had together in this park. (Names changed to protect the innocent).

I didn't know whether to laugh or cry!

Well, I am English. I sat stroking him while the vet put him down (brain tumour). I cried.

Quite possibly the most accurate assessment I've read on TV about differing breeds of dog..... and the sole reason why so many wannabe dog owners screw up.

Which is why i like cats... But also have a rather strange relationship with a dog who loves me.

I like the fact that cats are imdependant, they potter around and dont actually give a shit about you until they need a cuddle. Wheras doggies need afffection and walks all the time.

Nothing better than to go to sleep with the purr factor doing the "making pastry" act- cant sleep without it-

And cats can feed themselves by slaughtering native birds and animals. :)

I agree with the sentiment for Boxers, I would only have them or Labradors. That's the first thing I'll do once I get a chance to move out of the big city, but I still have to talk my girlfriend into it. She is afraid of large (or even medium sized) dogs, she cites a traumatic incident during childhood. I've tried to explain to her that a properly trained dog is not the same thing as a soi dog, but she still needs some convincing.

I had a neutered Russian Blue tom who never left the yard. On the rare occasions his predatory instincts came to the fore he restricted himself to mice (of the non-marsupial variety) and sparrows. And on one glorious day... a starling!

It's why I am indifferent to cats: they show "love" only when they want something, whereas a dog will love you all the time, not just at dinner time.

^I like to stir the <deleted> out of cats until they get really pissssed at you and have a go, then i bundle the baaastard up and go and feed it to the dog :) .

Sorry Im a dog man, cats are dirty, i especially hate it when cat owners allow the furry little buggers to climb all over the kitchen bench, tables and furniture.

Im kind to the stray cats and dogs in Thailand, I figure they deserve a break and Im always buying food in road stalls to feed to the little buggers.

training for the hunt.....my other world :)

I don't let him walk on my kitchen surfaces, one loud NO gets him scurrying under the couch, i also have a hand gesture that works. And, as my dear departed dad used to say - that dam_n cat needs a good kick under the tail.

But the purring makes me softer than Suega's Kerrygold butter.....

How many kitty cats do you have? I grew up on a farm and we all adopted several.
