New Years Resolutions?

Featured Replies

Do you believe in them? Do you make them? If so, what are yours?

I don't believe in NY resolutions myself. Either you are going to do it or you are not and no date will make a difference as to whether nor not you will start.

The evolution of resolutions

2007: I will not take a drink before 5:00 p.m.

2008: I will not touch the bottle before noon.

2009: I will not become a "problem drinker".

2010: I will not miss any AA meetings.

1999: I will not spend my money frivolously.

2003: I will pay off my bank loan promptly.

2007: I will pay off my bank loans promptly.

2008: I will begin making a strong effort to be out of debt.

2009: I will try to pay off the debt interest by 2010.

2010: I will try to be out of the country by 2011.

:) Funny Pooklook.

After so many resolutions got broken, a few years ago I made my NYR "To never make another NYR".

It's a resolution that I have kept, and see no danger of breaking.

Mine isn't really a resolution but a plan for life that just happens to be starting around the end of 2009/start 200 & that is ....to not fall back into the same old rut.

Life has to be different & we have to live it how we want without getting sucked into the mortgage, 9-5 bs that has controlled us for the past 5 1/2 years. Thankfully we managed to break free at the start of October but due to some debt still in Uk will need to return for a few months next year to clear that, but for now we are having some fun & living freer than we have in a long time.

good on you.

Planning to not fall into the same old rut is something I should seriously consider.

Not falling into the same old rut is one of the most difficult things to attain and maintain. That is a primary plan for me this year as well as trying to be more positive in my mental outlook. The financial crisis and rut-related stress were two things that had an effect on my outlook in 2009, so I want to try to be more constructive with my thoughts this year.

I don't do NY resolutions, but I find it to be a good time to look over the past year, and see what could be improved.

Mine is to finally make the life changing move I've been talking about for years, and to become healthier as part of the process.

(scea is my role model!)

:)

I'm going to try and not have stupid arguments with my sister. We are both pretty stubborn and seem to fall out over the stupidest things - not talk to each other for weeks until one of us breaks and its all tears and sorries etc. But, i can tell you, making that first move kills me because it should be her.... And it is sometimes.

We love each other dearly - but really, she can be so dumb sometimes... (me too!!)

Other than that - probably the usual, cutting down on booze, ciggies etc.

My New Years Resolution might as well be the same as last years, because I still have not started exercising &/or losing a bit of weight.

:)

Im just going for the standard ones, give up smoking, detox for month and try to have a healthier lifestyle...

I'm guessing they will go down the drain same as last year, but we keep trying :)

Oscar Wilde: Giving up smoking is easy. I've done it a thousand times before.

My problem with quitting is, I get all motivated and quit....then as soon as the second bourbon is finished, my motivation goes out the window.

Have to quit the bourbon first.

I am skipping resolutions for a year as I still haven't recovered from quitting smoking yet, one at a time.

2008: I will stop looking at other Thai Girls.

2009: I will not get involved with Nok.

2010: I will not let Nok pressure me to end my marriage.

I want to stop smoking so I've decided to only smoke after sex, if 2009 was anything to go by I've quit!!!!

I tried the smoking only after sex method (admittedly years ago)..... but I was still a pack-a-day smoker. :)

I don't smoke after sex, but there is enough heat to probably start a small fire. :)

My resolutions are always the same... to finish all the 3/4 done projects I've started. I'm always amazed when I DO finish a project because most turn out as I had hoped. I'm a creative person and start a lot of projects: art and professional writing. I seem to work best with a deadline.

Procrastination is something that I was taught at a very early age and it's something I've struggled with my whole life. I always wanted my Father's praise and never got it. He always said... "You can do better than that". And, when I did, he didn't say anything more. My mother, on the other hand, gave her praise too loosely and I never valued it.

Crikey Boo, I could have written the above, with a little exception, as our recent chat alluded to.

With recent events having blown me out of my comfort zone that I have resided in for more years than I care to remember, it has kick started us into doing what we have planned to do for some time, but it has happened to quick and we are moving faster than we wanted.

Anyway, as for NYR's, look out for a new Cafe/Bar in Rayong, along with a nursery that the wife will be running.

I have one this year, graduate this year and get accepted into grad school. I really want at least a Masters before we move to Bangkok. I am running out of time and money in the land of oportunity.

Someone was on the radio saying that new year is the complete wrong time of year to be making changes, sometimes significant, to our lifestyles. It's the middle of winter and depression is an ever present threat. Much better to make such changes or resolutions in springtime.

That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it. :)

2005: I will watch my calories until I get below 190.

2006: I will follow my new diet religiously until I get below 200.

2007: I will try to develop a realistic attitude about my weight.

2008: I will work out 5 days a week.

2009: I will work out 3 days a week.

2010: I will try to drive past a gym at least once a week.

reason for edit: just noticed sbk avatar....looks different.....nice... :)

My New Year's resolution is to get through another year without making too much of a prat of myself.

I suspect you've chosen a very easy resolution to follow. Man up and resolve to do something difficult!

Mate, you have no idea what a huge commitment this will be.

Giving up smoking, drinking and unnatural sexual habits was would be a breeze beside it.

Somehow, I just can't picture you being a prat.....but then again, nobody is perfect....ie, my ability to picture people.

Maybe that should be my New Years resolution. Cut back on the shoe shopping................

Naaah. No point in making resolutions I have no intention of keeping :)
