Bangkok residents' satisfaction with the 191 emergency hotline dropped from seven out of a possible 10 points in August to 5.8 in a recent survey.

Police were slower to respond to calls for help, reportedly taking 35 minutes on average to reach the scene compared to 23 minutes in August, Abac Poll director Noppadol Kannika said yesterday.

Officers at police stations scored a five, compared to the previous score of score.

The opinion poll was conducted by Assumption University from December 26 to January 1 with 1,713 responses from service users in city police precincts.

A police presence however remained much needed. The respondents said they felt more worried for their safety while walking around at night at 77.3 per cent, compared to August's 72.6 per cent, as fewer residents have spotted police patrolling communities at 62.3 per cent, compared to the previous 73.4 per cent.
