We live down on Sukhumvit Soi 24 and will be looking to buy a new Toyota sometime during the next month.

Any suggestions as to a dealership in the area, preferably near either Skytrain or subway?

Other suggestions for first time in-Thailand car buyers welcome.

Thanks

Bought a new Fortuner from Toyota Bangna 6 months ago and they seemed used to dealing with falang (directions/accessibilty below).

If you want the car registered in your name (you should!) then it's worth knowing that everything went smoothly here and it is fully registered in my name. I took a letter of residence from the British Embassy (rip off cost of 2,088 and the 200 baht translation accross the road from embassy), but it might be worth trying without - you probably do not need it for the order (just your passport/visa and Blue Tabien Baan for your partner if applicable) but they may ask for LOR when they do the pre-delivery documentation. Not necessary of course if you have a Yellow Tabien Baan (house occupation document) in your name and maybe cheaper for a non-Brit - research documentation on Thai Visa.

I purchased it with my Thai wife's assistance - I am not sure they have English speakers, but did not check; call them and ask if that's important to you.

It's on Bangna Trat highway (100 baht taxi ride from OnNut, but perhaps Skytrain goes out further now?) on the inbound to BKK side, so you have to U-turn having gone outbound towards Swampy and having passed BangNa Central shopping mall on the outbound side. It's about 5k back from having U-turned, but that's only my memory - look out for it as you go outbound. Maybe they have a map on the Toyota website

We shopped around and found little difference in prices from one dealer to the next between BKK and Isaan. We came to BKK and gave up on local Isaan dealers when BKK could offer an earlier delivery. Bang-Na advised that a limited edition Fortuner might take 3 months to deliver. Other dealers were longer or shifty on delivery. I thought - 'oh here we go, what's the bets it takes longer'. In the event they phoned one month earlier and said come and collect any time you like. This stuff is unlikley to affect you if you can choose a standard model and are not too fussy on colour (unlike my wife).

Deposits are refreshingly small in Thailand. I think we put down 18,000 baht on a 1.5m car.

I've been very satisfied with my 2009 Toyota Fortuner....got a little over 30,000 kilometers on it already with zero problems. I live in Khet TalingChan (western Bangkok) and bought my SUV from the TalingChan Toyota dealership on Road #9/OuterRing Road/Kanchanaphisek. They have a very large and first class maintenance/service and sales department. Ask for the salesman nicknamed "M" if you decide to buy there as he freely helped us greatly in our settling down in Bangkok.
