CPN wins approval for Chiang Rai mall

By The Nation

Chiang Rai Municipality has allowed Central Pattana Plc to proceed with the construction of its planned retail complex.

CPN's local arm Thaipat Property has started the land filling. The plan has been delayed for a year as the new property is in the red zone where retail-wholesale business with usable space of over 300 square metres is barred.

Mayor Anurat Inthorn referred the permission to the Civil Works Department and the city planning committee's comments that the centre's retail space remains under legal limit as the entire complex contains a large number of small shops.

I believe they have already started the land preparation virtually opposite BigC.

If the shop sizes are no larger than 300 sq.metres then there should be no competition to bigC. But I`ll bet every dollar I have that there wil be shops larger than that in the new "Centran".

P.S. Not 100% sure about location. but a few people have told me that the land clearing there is for the new Centran.

CPN plan a 40,000 sqm of useable area for Central Plaza Chiang Rai opposite Big C alright. Supposed to be completed and opened next year 2011. Traffic would be heavy there. Now, where the ring road Chiang Rai needs.
