A cat called Room 8

4DCA9320-7D92-4C1E-A7B60B164BFC5951_medi

A stray cat wandered into a classroom at Elysian Heights Elementary School in 1952.

After coming back to the classroom several mornings in a row, the
children decided to name him after the number of their room -- "Room
8."

He was loved and cared for by the students. When "Room 8" came back
to school after each summer vacation, he suddenly became famous.

Newspapers sent reporters and photographers to the school. Television stations told the story of "Room 8."

He was featured in Look Magazine, Cats magazine, and the Weekly
Reader. His picture was taken every year with the 6th grade graduating
class.

"Room 8" never missed a day of school in 16 years until his death in
1968. His estimated age was 22 years.

Upon the cat's passing, Los Angeles Times reporter Dial Torgerson wrote that Room 8 "took fame with
feline equanimity, posing casually for countless pictures, becoming ruffled only once, when asked to put his
[aforementioned] paw prints in concrete in front of the school. (He left so fast he provided a tail print, too.)"

He is buried under a beautiful headstone in the Los Angeles Pet Memorial Park in Calabasas, California.

A book entitled A Cat Called Room 8 was written about him in 1966 by
Virginia Finley and Beverly Mason (New York: Putnam, c1966).

A very touching story, SBK. Where would the world be without kitty cats (well, all animals).

It is Sheryl's cat, I believe, who keeps disturbing her at work by tapping on the keyboard with its paws. Apparently, a whole industry has sprung up to produce games that keep cats entertained so that they will leave their owners alone when they have to work.

Painter Turns Tree Holes into Works of Art

In the city of Shijiazhuang, China, an artist has brought smiles to pedestrians by painting drab tree holes and turning them into works of art. Since February, over eleven tree trunks on Jiuzhong Street have become the canvas for aspiring 23 year-old art student, Wang Yue.
Each piece takes Wang about two hours to complete. The local environmental protection bureau has approved the artworks and publicly stated that the paints used will not harm the tree and will eventually wash away over time.
Wang Yue’s artwork has received much praise in the Chinese media. The splash of colour has been welcomed by the citizens of Shijiazhuang, a city of over ten million people, known for having some of the worst air pollution in the world.

A wee thimbelina piccie of Jimbo sleeping, Shit i miss him......

My sister in Edinburgh has just told me that her wee cat, Sid, has cancer and she has to get him put down.

Sid and Jimmijoe are the same age - 13. Fat, spoilt, loved bastards.

Wild, I like how the cat meows at the dog when he stops to smell something.
