Crackdown of Foreign Operated Sex Bars Began Last Night

PATTAYA: -- Police Crackdown Nets Pattaya Foreign Sex Bar Owner in Jail

In the first night of the police crackdown reported exclusively in the Pattaya Times newspaper until picked up by major internet outlets and later by The Nation, bars in Sunee Plaza in Pattaya were raided last night.

A notorious foreign bar owner who is known to have operated many bars for many years in the Sunee Plaza section of Pattaya behind TukCom IT Center has been detained by Pattaya Police and Immigration Officers for allegedly abusing young boys and offering sex for pay from his bar. He was arrested a few hours ago for allegedly operating a bar in Pattaya’s Sunee Plaza that police say uses underage boys for escort services and lewd stage shows. Jean Eric Lopez, holding a French passport, is now charged with statutory rape stemming from activity in his sex bar.

According to a spokesman from the Sunee Plaza Association which is made up of more than 30 businesses in Sunee Plaza, “He was banned from joining the group and his bar was one of the problems plaguing the reputation of the Plaza which is under renovation and upgrading.”

Phil Graham of Thailand Spice! Magazine said the same Frenchman was not accepted as an advertiser based on his character and the horrible accusations made against him over the years which police now confirm as true."Spice! has always been the magazine that promoted the best of gay life and fine dining and great hotels in Thailand, not the worst of it. This is good to have the areas cleaned of the bad businesses preying on the young."

With cooperation from the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation, agents from the Department of Special Investigation with cooperation from Pattaya Police, Chonburi Immigration Bureau and the Women and Children’s Protective Service agents based in Banglamung they raided the bar and arrested Jean Eric Lopez of Pattaya who was said to be the owner.

Pattaya Police also seized his computer and hundreds of pornographic videos and pictures in his possession. Lopez, 47, has run several gay bars in Thailand that provide services mainly to foreigners. This is the first night of raids that are expected at gay bars, beer bars and go go bars all around Pattaya. Bars with no illegal activity have no cause for concern, nor do patrons, said one leading police officer associated with the crackdown.
