Lacking A Life?

Featured Replies

The current breast beating over loss of post count also raised the old accusation that people who post a lot on forums are... wait for it....lacking a life!

A quick check of "My Assistant" revealed sceadugenga proudly heading the pack of today's contributors, (I discount classifieds, I called him a capon once and he ignored me).

So am I lacking a life? Let me check what I did today...

Walked the dog twice, about 3kms each time.

Sat with wife's visitors and watched them play cards for about an hour.

Picked up drunk visiting friend from local watering hole.

Cooked a massaman curry.

Played bridge on the computer.

Watched a bit of TV.

Wrote out a list of 200 satellite TV channels so friend can find the program he wants when sober.

Read a chapter or two of Underbelly (The book of the TV series, I know, I know, but I knew some of the people in it).

Made 37 posts on ThaiVisa.

Sent PMs to lannaman and UlyssesG.

Read about 30 daily comic strips online.

Seems like a pretty good life for a retired gent to me.

Plus, I like forums. :)

That's a pretty productive day.

I stepped on my wife's dogs twice "Pooden"

Took two truckloads of garden waste to my land

bought more plants to replace those removed

Bought some moulding for a door

Went out for lunch.

Visited wife's mother in hospital

got stuck in a Red Shirt rally.

Interestingly I note, you are coming to CM from CR to to enliven your life, I suppose; and I'm going to CR from CM to do the same. That and escape the sound of the power chisels breaking down the walls of my house. Serenity Now!

Well according to my "My Assistant" I've already posted one reply tomorrow (29th).

It's these <deleted>' space/time wormholes. :D

Today I have:-

Read the Daily Bellylaff (Telegraph) on line.

Read the Bangkok Post on line.

Walked down to the ferry terminal and popped over to District 1.

Checked out the frequency of flights to Seoul and cost (too much by far but I gotta go :D )

Had lunch with two beautiful ladies. :D

Tried unsuccessfully to ascertain whether my Vietnamese partner need a visa for Korea (since discovered she does).

Checked out one of the computer shop looking at printers :D .

Withdrew loadsamoney from the bank (ouch). Mind you the girls in the bank are :D but don't tell my missus I said that.

Back over the river stopping off at the market to buy some dragon fruit :) .

Ate stuffed omlettes for dinner :D .

And somewhere managed to post something like ten or so replies in TV.

<edit : btw I've just noticed that my post count is down, how long has this theft been going on? I thought that there's a lot of new characters about with high post counts.>

I'm nearing the end of a gap 10 months so will start work :D end February.

Not a bad day, no beer, healthy food and exercise. Something's got to change.

I lost over 500 posts, I'm not demanding justice or insisting that I be given my previous post count back or claiming unfair treatment because of it. I accept it was something that needed to be done for the forum & accept that thaivisa has the right to maintain the site as they see necessary. This is what I consider "getting a life" when posters take this so seriously when it is after all, the internet & the loss of some post count & not the quest for world peace or the end of hunger.

Oh & I spent most of my day with a poorly toddler then took over from my husband at the shop after an early dinner of Cornish Pasty, mash & peas. :)

Is Cornish Pasty widely available in Isaan?

ah, this is starting to explain certain things, esp Altum Angels sudden lost of 2500 posts... but i think mine are untoched :)

If we wanna fill our day with jet setting across the world and meeting important political figures to work out world peace..or sit on our <deleted> all day.. thats our business. Today was a rather boring day, but i dont need to post extracts of it. My day was MY day..its how i wanted to spend it (or sometimes more a case of how i needed to spend it)..and thats all that matters.

Really bugs me when others project what they consider what "a life" should be. How about THEY get a life by not being so bloody concerned about other peoples lives. :)

Am I the only person who doesn't know how many 'posts' I lost because I didn't know how many I had to begin with?

Or care, truth be told.

You are not the only one.

Is anyone seriously bothered?

Oh, my day. Up at 6am, yes 6am. Drove to Chester for 2 workshops back to back (had a shit sandwich in between). Drove home through rush hour traffic, went to the gym for an hour and a half. Came home and cooked a Thai Red curry for me and the better half. My real problem is tomorrow is exactly the same, except Friday is pasta night with the best bottle of red wine I have in my cellar. Oh yeah, and Monday starts all over again... The things I do to make a crust! :)

I'm up at 6am this morning and I'm not going anywhere till about noon. The temple bell usually wakes me.

My point is that we're doing what we WANT to do. If our daily routine causes contempt in our peers, who obviously consider themselves out superiors, then I don't care.

I'm up at 6 again with a still poorly toddler, today I need to go to the bank & then meet some new customers who are booked into the shop today. Oh & I still maintain that anyone who kicks up such a major shit fit over how many posts they no longer have, need to get a life. :)

Personally I think it's a fairly harmless thing to care about, there are far worse obsessions.

And at the end of the day... boy I'm sick of that cliché.... complaining at length will eventually restore the lost posts.

fairly harmless thing to care about

sure caring about it is harmless, what isn't harmless is creating a massive fuss, making demands, foot stomping & basically causing a whole heap of crap over something & the reason for it, that was explained multiple times.

complaining at length will eventually restore the lost posts

No, it wont. :)

Well, it may make some people feel better to know that I at least do not have a life, and spend far too much time on TV.

I have a boring job that I am sick of, no social life, no GF, no money, a mortgage, a drinking habit, and a despondant outlook on life in general.

I think he meant will eventually restore the count by sheer number of complaint posts. :D

AH ok, yes, sure. Why not :)

...complaining at length will eventually restore the lost posts.

As Harcourt says, it's an extra post every time they complain, one which does not require original thought.... surely a bonus! :D

I was in bed at 12, awake at 3.30am, up at 4, sick of trying to get back to sleep.

I walked onto the balcony to see an incredible full moon reflecting off the flat, black sea, and Mars close by, so I got out my telescope and had the best views of Mars ever (the full moon always looks stupendous with the telescope). I could make out surface details on Mars, which I have never seen before.

Waking my wife up to share this wondeful moment counted as foolhardy in the extreme, but I knew she would (and did) enjoy it too.

Then it was back to dealing with emails, drafting legal documents and, just now, checking TV, and at 9am I am going for my morning run up the beach, wondering at what time today I will run out of steam through lack of sleep.

Waking my wife up to share this wonderful moment counted as foolhardy in the extreme, but I knew she would (and did) enjoy it too.

Fool hardy and possibly leading to life threatening injuries.

I think the people putting down the complainers have racked up far more posts than their "pathetic" targets.

My complaints were confined to one or two posts, but I notice in her attempts to put me, and others, down and to tell me "to get a life", Boo has increased her post count by something like 13 posts spread over several threads.

I know you were acting as a private member, not a mod, in these replies so alls fair in the way you express your opinions Boo.

But I am disappointed for you that you didn't see the need to answer the whingers in a reasonable manner.

Yeah, especially as I was going out onto the balcony (and I'm 20 floors up).

quite frankly OC the complaints, imo, were not reasonable. Once the answer was given then that really should have been the end of it but it wasn't, if I needed to rack up 13 posts to get the point across then so be it, had the reason been accepted without the excessive paranoia then one post would have sufficed. I just can't be doing with grown people acting like children over such a trivial matter. And yes, these are my own opinions so now you know how I really feel about people moaning over such irrelevant things. 14 posts now, does it need to be more? :)

Post-Traumatic Post Disorder (PTPD) is a type of anxiety disorder that's triggered by a post count reduction event.

Wow, I make a comment about my own post count and my own life and look at what results. All sorts of hurt feelings that assume I was talking about anyone other than myself.

Um, guys. Look at my post count. Then look at your own and feel vindicated you have a life. Cheers. :)

I suppose the only thing worse than being to told to get a life is convincing yourself that you need to get one... :)

No, the only thing worse than being told to get a life is KNOWING you need to get one :D

Yeah, especially as I was walking out onto the balcony, 20 floors up. :)

Jeez, all I did was ask what it was all about. All I know is that I know I passed the 5k mark sometime late last year and I know I've posted more than 30 odd times since. No big deal, they can reset the clock to zero for all I care except that would make me a newbie and newbies on any forum are bottom of the food chain. I hadn't noticed it until last night, or was it this morning? I never realised there was such a large time difference between SGN and BKK. Is it still 1954 over there?

As for getting a life, well life is what you make it and I'm quite happy with mine. Somedays I just sits and thinks and somedays I just thinks and sh1ts. You don't have to be saving the world every day or any day but I gotta go now, just had a phone call from folks in someplace called Stavros or something, seems they don't know what to do with their money. Now that is something I can help out with. :)
