More Help Please!

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I recently posted a topic concerning my daughter getting her Thai passport and was told it would be easier to do in the UK. However, whilst my boyfriend was here for our daughters birth, he has now returned to Thailand and so cannot come with me to the embassy in London to apply for her passport (he's Thai i'm english). Is it impossible for me to get her passport without him being there? I'm led to understand it'll be fairly difficult in Thailand, but which will be the least difficult, Thailand with both of us present or the UK by myself? Also failing that if for the time being i just take my daughter to Thailand on her british passport on just a single entry visa, would she be charged overstay if say i went on a multiple entry and did border runs? The thought of doing border runs with a young baby is not too enticing! Again, any help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks

It can't do any harm to give the embassy a call.

Explain the situation.

Maybe they can issue a passport with just a copy of your BF documents (get him to send certified copies of his ID card and passport).

Worth a phone call.

First comes birth certificate. Once you have a birth certificate, then comes the passport.

If the baby is born in the UK, then it is the Embassy’s job to issue the birth certificate. In Thailand it is the local districts job to issue a birth certificate. If you weren't born in that district, they won't issue you with one.

Best bet is to ring the embassy and explain the situation (as has been recommended). Most likely you will need the baby’s UK birth certificate with the fathers name on it. A copy of his ID card and house registration will most likely also be needed and with this he probably doesn't need to be there. But it is just speculation on my part.

For sure though, you won’t be getting a birth certificate issued in Thailand. No BC = No Passport, so the embassy is going to have to be you first port of call.

With the BC in hand, it shouldn't be a problem for you as the mother to get the Thai PP on your own in London, though you'll need someone to help you fill out the form, as it is in Thai.
