Observers Believe Coup Still Possible

Featured Replies

Yep Im sure the red shirts will just sit by and nod their heads in an understanding way if the money gets seized. Unless of course ole Chavalit is using code for well if the dosh gets seized there wont be any to pay for trouble. Then again not sure what Ole Thaksin will make of his hand picked man making such statements whatever he meant by them.

Haven't seen a mention of this in the press, but very relevant at present.Personally can't see anything happening whilst Exercise Cobra Gold is being hosted. Apart from the regional neighbors taking part, more importantly the US has around 13,500 troops in the Kingdom. Imagine the political ramifications if a coup was staged now, it would be very embarrassing for the US who incidently cut financial aid whilst the last Military Government was in charge.

UPDATE

Politics chaotic as per usual but coup not warranted: Chavalit

Pheu Thai Party chairman Chavalit Yongchaiyudh on Tuesday tried to quell coup rumours by arguing the political situation, though chaotic, did not deteriorate to warrant the military intervention.

Chavalit voiced optimism that the political terbulence would pass once the high court handed down the verdict on the Bt76 billion in impounded assets of ex-premier Thaksin Shinawatra.

"I believe normalcy would resume after the completion of the judicial review on this case," he said.

He said he was confident the red shirts would understand and accept the verdict, dismissing concern for the eruption of violence.

And who did his utmost to create turmoil with his inflammatory visit to Cambodia and Hun Sen and intended visits to all of Thailand's neighbourung countries, eventually called off due to failure? Yes, Big Jiew himself!

The one possibility that few talk about is that after the asset case decision there is a possibiltiy for a political realignment. Of course nothing may happen but there will be a possibiltiy and players will be preparing for that too or to try and prevent it.
