New Highway Out Of Pattaya.

:) Hi all, I noticed a few vehicles going over Sukhumvit Road Pattaya today, so i took a run down there on the bike. Great road 3 lanes all the way hooks up on the No 7 Highway so all straight to the Airport. I did notice that it was not open from the other end to Pattaya, although there were some trucks and a crane there that may have been removing the concrete barracades. Certainly makes it faster than going all the way to Naklua turnoff. :D

Yeah, the entrance/exit policy is a bit weird.

When coming from Bangkok you can exit in Nong prue (close to crocodile farm), at the railway parallel road (close to the train station) and then at Sukhumvit.

At all those exits you can also enter, but only in the direction of Bangkok, not in the direction of Pattaya. So those living in the Nong Prue and a large part of the Mabprachan area will have no faster way getting into town...

The locals gaining the most are those living in the Nong Plalai (Regents school) area, they can end up in central Pattaya much quicker now, then of course they will have to deal with the two traffic lights there (Siam Country club road and central Road). My guess is that it'll be a nice gridlock every Friday afternoon/evening when the Bangkokians enter Pattaya for the weekend :)

But all is open now, most concrete barriers have been removed, or pushed to the side...There's big teams with weed cutters cleaning up both sides of the new stretch...

Oh yes they have.Watch out for cars driving in the direction pattaya on the side that goes direction bangkok.I've met several already.

As always in Pattaya traffic rules, this new part of the higway is a hidden deathtrap.

I saw it yesterday morning with delight when I dropped my parents at the airport.

From my office on Sukhumvit to the airport drop-off exactly one hour and one minute.

The lack of exits is really a bummer, I was hoping for a faster ride to/from work but it won't happen yet. However I noticed at the bridge at Soi Chaypoom Witti that there is a frontage road in the making. It ends now at the little river, but there is a road on the other side of the river, all that's missing is a bridge that might be completed as early as 2025.

Surely that must be a matter of not having completed all the entry/exit ramps yet?

No, the new stretch of highway is designed and built to contain a toll-booth, BUT for now the highway authorities decided to wait with the toll-booth. That's why there are no exits from Pattaya to Bangkok and only 2 exits (Chayapornviti Road and the Pattaya Bypass) from Bangkok to Pattaya.

Well basjke, that's because you have become just like the locals you regularly chastise for bad driving habits by using the new motorway extension BEFORE it's officially open.

Good to hear that they are removing the concrete barriers from the BKK end as more than a few idiots have been racing down the outside then braking hard where the existing feeder to Rayong/Pattaya exits so that they can squeeze through the gap at the end of the barrier, slip onto the extension and save 10 minutes drive time.

Don't tell me you did that as well basjke? Not you too mate?

It is after all the final extension of Highway 7 From Bangkok and the airport to central Pattaya and NOT part of a ring-road for whingeing 'dark-siders'.

Don't know what you have in mind but when the no entering signs and barriers are removed and the road signs are up then to me the highway is open for public use.Or do you suggest I wait until I get a personal invitation to join the openings party?

And no I try to drive according the traffic laws but I am sick oif the locals breaking every possible traffic law and put others lives in danger.

It was closed in the southbound direction for a good portion of the day yesterday, as work crews were around the Hwy 36 overpass. I'm not sure if they were actually working, or just taking a rest in the shade, but the police blocked the southbound entrance to the new motorway.

Last night, I saw several people entering the southbound motorway from the Hwy 3240 offramp. So, if you take that offramp in the southbound direction, which I always did before the motorway was completed to Sukhumvit, watch out for contra-flow traffic.

Correct but wrong reason, there was a film crew doing some shooting. They probably hadn't been informed that they actually opened the highway :)

Yup, I guess it's NOT open yet. But carry on anyway... just don't expect any sympathy if/when you get hit by another moron driver or given a ticket just because the traffic cop felt like it.

So you are speaking from first hand experience? You know that as a fact? I wondered why the Mayor, Kun OpeningOfAnEnvelope had not personally hand delivered my invitiation to the opening ceremony. There I was feeling rejected :)

And, you don't need to be on that particular road to be hit by a moron driver in Thailand....

OK, so i'm going to drive down from Bangkok to Pattaya in a bit - is the new road open for use then? I live in East Pattaya off the top end of Nern Plab Wan, what's the best exit?

Thanks,

Tom.

Well you must be on your way by now, but if the film-crew is still there (at 4 p.m. they were still there), take the normal exit towards Pattaya and take the Pattaya-Bypass along the railtracks.

If the film-crew has gone, go straight on the new stretch of highway and take the 2nd possible exit; turn left and go left/reight on Neung Pleb Waan.

If they were just making a film, why was there a huge construction crane at the overpass? :)

^ Your usual charming self today huh NanLaew... :)

Yes Phil, every morning I wake full of the joys of Spring in Thailand but somewhere between my second croissant and third coffee, my maid with ADD strikes and the moment is lost. Taps left running, fly screens pinned back, half-loaded washing machine, garbage lifted out of pail but curiously dropped on the lawn beside a half-beaten carpet and a running tap. New bin liner not in place yet, a half-mopped floor and she's outside the back murdering a chicken...

Did I mention the running taps?

We tried to take the road today, but from Pattaya, it was blocked by the police. You can do the overpass off Suk, but it was blocked only a half kilo later. Got onto that road next to the rail road tracks and it sucked.

On the way back, they were doing some filming. Lots of people and vehicles out there.

Not just some little soap opera! Rather big production team, big enough for Pattaya City to send out their toilet bus, several ambulances (looked like they were doing stunt recordings, this afternoon they had a lot of car wrecks) etc.

Those big cranes are used to pull up big light units 40 or 50 meters high to allow for night time shooting as well.

If the film crew has gone it'll be an easy trip to Soi Siam Country club road and Soi Nern Plub Waan (if you need to be close to the Sukhumvit end anyway).

Coming from Bangkok, at the main 7/36 intersection, you drive straight onto the new part into town. The second exit, marked "Sattahip" will drop you on the parallel road with the railway track, a few hundred meters before Soi Siam Country club road. Cross there and you hit Nern Plub Waan.

Distance from highway exit to Nern Plub Waan probably a bit over a km.

I feel with you, though it could be worse, she could have been your wife. At least it's easy to replace a maid...

I don't know about you but if there's a professional film team out there making a movie, I would say that it's not open yet.

But as they say in Thailand, 'Up to you.'

I don't know about you also, but as far as i remember you are staying very far from Pattaya isn't it?

By the way ever heard about a temporary closure of a road due to circumstances e.g. making of a movie?
