4 Red Shirts Killed in Road Accident in Route Back from Rally

CHIANG RAI: -- A truck carrying red-shirt protesters crashed into a tree in Chiang Rai Province, resulting in four deaths.

A truck crashed into a roadside tree in Phan District of Chiang Rai Province. The truck was decorated with red-shirts flags and stickers.

The policeman who arrived at the scene discovered four bodies and two injured passengers inside the truck.

The injured were rushed to a nearby hospital. Among the fatalities are Wuthipong Wongsaeng, Amnaj Petchnuan, Duangchan Panyasen, and Muangjai Maneerat. All were Chiang Rai natives.

The initial investigation found that the victims were all supporters of the anti-government red-shirt movement and had travelled to Bangkok to join the rally on March 26th.

Police believe the accident was caused by the driver's fatigue.

The driver may have accidentally steered the truck into a tree at high speed on the return trip.

With Thailand's road toll, which is rapidly approach peak season, I'd imagine the colour of people's shirts will make little difference.
