Hi Cuddleypete,

Sometimes, in borderline cases, an MP can carry enough weight to sway the decision. However, it is normal practice to only approach him/her once an application has already been refused. It's a shame you don't live down the road in Folkestone. Your MP would then be Michael Howard and we know how much he loves immigrants......

Scouse.

Cuddleypete. Wouldn't advise contacting local MP until your application has been turned down, and even then it would depend on the reasons. Give the embassy the benefit of the doubt. Only go for the jugular when they give you some crazy reason for refusal :D Civil Servants are human too you know, sometimes :o

I wrote on behalf of a friend to John Major, who was then Prime Minister regarding an application for a British passport that had been in limbo for over two years.

The letter did have the desired affect.

However, the important point is, your MP will help, if there has been a breach of existing rules or failure to follow procedure.

Your MP will not be able to override a decision that has been made in compliance with rules and procedures.
