I need to get my daughter her Thai passport. Can someone tell me the nearest office I can do this at. I am travelling from Hua Hin and I am presuming I have to go to Bangkok. I am not sure where the office is and if there is more than one. Also, can someone please give me a checklist of all documentation I need. I think I know but knowing my luck there will be one thing missing and a wasted trip will be had.

Thanks

to obtain thai passport both parents need to attend, if one parent is isn't around then sole custody document is needed.

If you can provide a bit more info then we can assist you more;

Who is the thai parent, mother or father. Are you still together & if not do you have full custody agreement.

from memory general documentation is;

Thai parents id & tabien baan

foreign parents id/passport

Birth certificates

relevant application forms filled in

fee

At the thai embassy in london they took the picture of my son there & alsohis finger prints so not sure if the same process in thailand.

One parent can be present to obtain the passport by using the below procedures - but both have to agree and sign paperwork.

e-Passport applications submitted in Bangkok

- Both parents can accompany the child to apply for an e-Passport and sign the parental consent form.

or

- One parent must accompany the child to apply for an e-Passport. The other parent can appear and sign the parental consent form when he/she picks-up the e-Passport.

or

- One parent must accompany the child, signs the parental consent form, and submits a notarized consent letter of the non-appearing parent.

e-Passport applications submitted outside of Bangkok

- Both parents can accompany the child to apply for an e-Passport and sign the parental consent form.

or

- One parent accompanies the child, signs the parental consent form, and submits a notarized consent letter of the non-appearing parent.

Thanks for info. Both of us will go to get the passport. I am the UK mother and my partner he is a Thai citizen. Am I right in thinking that the only place is in Bangkok to go? Can anyone give me the address.

There are several passport offices in bangkok. Follow this link: http://www.mfa.go.th/web/2633.php

click on consulair affairs in the middle screen and a list including the passport offices will apear. I think Bang Na is the closest. They are very effecient, you will be in and out in 30 minutes.

You say partner, does that mean you are not married? If so, does the BC states the child as a Thai national? Otherwise you have a problem.

Assuming you have by now accessed and printed off the list of requirements, there is one rather important requirement that the English version of the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs website does not mention.

Remember to take the baby

:):D

I'm sure you would, but we did not when we went to the Ubon passport office a month ago. I was blinded by my Thai wife's superior knowledge of Thai bureaucracy and intimidated by her insistence that I was a stupid Englishman who knows nothing about Thailand. The fact that I had spent 3 hours on websites and blogs making sure I knew most things about the process was neither here nor there. As we know Thais are all-seeing and all-knowing. It was a Friday and the office had just closed so my secret phone call to check this fact (secret to avoid challenging her authority) prior to trekking 90k on the Monday morning was abortive. The Brits do not require baby's presence to get a British passport so I took the risk.

I wish I had a camera to record my wife's face when she had to tell me that the trip was wasted - priceless. I could have enjoyed such a video later. I could not enjoy it at the time because I was so p~$$#d off with my own stupidity in deferring to my loved one.

Provided you have the few documents required the process is easy. There was no application form that I recall (Boo) - you fill all in that is necessary at the office and they take the baby's photo and any necessary photocopies of your documents. Immigration and Domestic Affairs offices of other countries take note - the Thais have a seriously user-friendly process here!

Offices of Passport Division (the ones in Bangkok - I do not see an office nearer to hand if you live in Bangkok in their listing of Passport offices)

1.) Head Office : Chang Wattana Road. Working Hours 08.00 to 15.30

2.) Temporary Branch : 9th Floor Central City Shopping Center Bang Na , Bang-Na-Trad Road. Working Hours 08.00 to 15.30

3.) Temporary Branch : 8th Floor Central Department Store Pinklao,

Borommarajachonnani Road. Working Hours 08.00 to 15.30

Pinklao is the most central, but if you are driving froim HH, Bang-Na will be the easiest to get to - go round the Southern part of the BKK Outer Ring Road (Thanon Khampaeng Pet) until you hit the Bangna-Trat highway, just short of Swampy. Turn left/east to come into BKK and keep on the slow frontage road, avoiding both the fast Bangna-Trat highway in the middle ground-level section and the elevated Tollway - both of which will whistle you further into BKK than you want to go. After about 3k you will go past Central Shopping Centre on the other side of the highway (you can't miss it - only 6 ish storey monster slab building around) and take the U-turn bridge that comes up quickly thereafter to get back to the Centre.

Thanks for info, yes the Bang Na office seems the easiest to get to. Good point about taking my daughter as that is something I would do. Take all documentation and leave her at home....
