PHUKET: -- Delivering pianos to Chiang Mai and letters to mom in New York got easier on April 30 when Thailand Post opened a new service center in Koh Kaew.

‘Phuket EMS World and Logispost’ is the only facility in the region dedicated to international deliveries and shipments of large items.

EMS World and Logispost chief Narat Sangarkas said service standards at the outlet are higher than at other post offices.

“Normal post offices have many duties, including standard post delivery, postal orders and payments, so officers don’t have much time to take care of customers,” he said.

The center, next to Koh Kaew Post Office on Thepkrasattri Road northbound, offers additional services including door-to-door collection and delivery.

“You don’t need to waste your time coming to the center or any other post office,” Mr Narat said.

International deliveries, sent though the center's 'EMS World' service, can be tracked online.

“You can use the Thailand Post website to track which country your parcel is in until it reaches its destination. You can’t get this service at a normal post office,” he said.

Delivery times from the center would be faster than those posted at regular post offices, he said.

Parcels sent to the USA will reach their destination in just six days, he said.

The center also offers credit for customers who send a high volume of items and arranges permits for certain goods.

“If you want to send a Buddha image abroad, for example, a special permit is required. We can arrange it for you,” he said.

Very large items can be delivered through the Logispost service, Mr Narat said.

“We can deliver goods over the standard size at a normal post office, such as a motorbike, fridge, even a piano. We can handle anything you want to deliver – except a pet.”

The center is open Monday to Friday (9am to 5pm) and on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays (9am to 12pm).

For more information, call the center at: 086-476 7706 or 076-377757.
