Pattaya Red Shirts join Laem Chabang Port protest

PATTAYA:-- We are closely monitoring local Anti-Government Red Shirt protesters and can report that they are currently not causing any problems here in the Pattaya area. The same cannot be said for Laem Chabang which is located 20kms from Pattaya in the direction of Bangkok. Red Shirt protesters have been camped outside the entrance to the Laem Chabang Port since Sunday. The protesters are now blocking the entrance to the port and preventing container trucks from entering

There was a post here a while ago saying the reds were threatening to BLOW UP some kind of oil tanker at the port. Any truth today to that?

BTW, what are the police good for? The red insurgents have no legal right to block containers.

Police presence is minimal and they are making no attempts to move the protesters on who number almost 300.

Uh oh. From the current news thread.

Thaksin is threatening to use his friends in the Thai military (not the red shirt army) to stage SABOTAGE in major provinces in Thailand. Chonburi province is major. Pattaya is important to Thai tourism. Does Thaksin plan to bring his civil war to Pattaya?

I think people here are feeling this is a Bangkok problem. But we are awfully close to Bangkok, aren't we?

The Nation

Thaksin's influence in the ongoing secret talks between the government and the red shirts was confirmed by another source from the opposition Pheu Thai Party.

The source, who is close to the ex-premier, said that certain Pheu Thai leaders and Thaksin's close relatives were also involved in the secret talks. In addition to other conditions, such as the date for a new election, Thaksin also made his personal demands.

"Up till now, there have been no positive responses to the demands. These include a return of part of assets from the asset-seizure case and a return of Thaksin's passports," said the Pheu Thai source.

The source also said that Thaksin has a "trump card" in hand that he would use if the talks fail.

"The real strategists [Thaksin's allies from the military] will play an underground game by staging sabotage acts in different areas throughout the city and other major provinces in order to pressure the government to accept Thaksin's conditions," the source said.

the reds always claim not to be paid for their protesting services but how can they just dissapear from work at a moments notice?

who pays for the gas to take them to Laem Chabang?

surely they do not all reach into their own pockets and say 'hey lets go risk getting arrested, injured or killed in this protest up the road, this is something i really believe in and think is worth dying for ''

it defies belief, as do many things that the reds do and say

they are no more than paid for terrorists and mercenaries and should be treated as such:

From UN definition of terrorism

"In November 2004, a United Nations Secretary General report described terrorism as any act "intended to cause death or serious bodily harm to civilians or non-combatants with the purpose of intimidating a population or compelling a government or an international organization to do or abstain from doing any act". "

By this definition the Issan Red Army are terrorists.

What's happening at Pattaya City hall now?

Other provincial reports, reds take over Chiang Mai city hall, reds have torched both building of Udon city hall. Given the history of the reds acting up at Pattaya City hall, this is probably more of a when than an if question.
