I'm trying to send a fax to the USA, I was given these 2 numbers: 001 + 801-545-2700 & 001 + 801 880-7137 but the shop I'm sending them from is telling me the numbers are wrong, can anybody tell me what I need to add or subtract please?

Thanks in advance

Try 009 1 801-545-2700 or 009 1 801 880-7137

Remember the country code to the USA is 1 so you need to dial the international phone service first. The way you dialed looks like you are dialing the international phone service as 001 and the country code as 80 or 801 and that is the problem.

This is taken directly from the internet on what numbers to dial etc.: Dial: 001 + 1 + Area Code + 7 digits (local number)

Thanks for your replies, I just spoke with the shop again and they said there should only be 11 digits, can I assume that this means I should leave out the 00 and just dial 18015452700 ?

It could be that the shop has some type of service that when a call is placed to another country the access numbers are eliminated so as to forward and pass the call through that service. I just dialed the number ending in 7137 from my cell and got a fax machine, no problem. Dialed 0011 801 880 7137. So the shop is wrong if they have a regular phone line. Here is a web site that goes through all that: http://www.searchpeopledirectory.com/international/.

If you have more problems just go to a hotel and send it. There are 14 digits not 11, and the first four are 0011.

001 will route you through CAT international circuits and probably be the most expensive. 001 is the original international access code for use "from" Thailand. Nowdays, most telephone companies (TOT, DTAC, AIS, etc) offer their own international access code(s) at different rates, such as TOT using 007 & 008, with 008 being about 40% cheaper than 007. DTAC using 004, etc. Hopefully the fax shop will use whatever international access code is cheaper for you, but it will probably be the one that makes the most profit for him as I expect you may be just paying a flat fee per page faxed.

After the international access code is entered, it's just 1-XXX-XXX-XXXX to the USA.
