I am using a Dialup connection with a 56K modem. After I get connected to the ISP [which is a free give away from Bangkok University] I noticed that I am getting Errors in the Received side and no Errors in the Sent side.

The compression rate is around 50%.

Can anyone explain me how these two things, “errors” in the “Dial up dialog box” and compression rate can effect to the speed of my Internet. [if it effects]

I am using Windows XP and have 256K RAM, 32MB of VGA.

For browsing I use Opera 7.1.

For maintainance of XP. I use a small tool call "Boost XP". It works well and I know it increases the speed of my PC ad cleans up XP temporary files, fix short cuts, fix registries etc..

Thank you

well, you can look in the modem properties, and disable the compression ...

other way, I don't see that this could come from the ISP ... may be your modem, or the line by itself ...?

Hi there,

agree to francois, switch of the compression.

In generell such errors also occure because of a poor line-quality.

The impact on your overall connectionspeed is quit clear since PPP is a connectionoriented protocol. The corrupted/loss data have to be transmitted again. This Retransmission reduces your average speed!

Call the support of the intenet company and ask for the eng speaking staff they have. Ask at least 3 people in the company and if its CSCOMS ask to talk direct to the techincal guy the rest are just idiots with head sets.

Then you take the best answer off this 3 and i am not jooking.

How to switch off this compression thing in XP?

By dong that, will it reduce the speed?

I think my Line speed is good for a Dial up and I am connecting at 50.0 K.

Never Never land,

About the way to handle the ISP guys in Thailand..you are correct..Sometimes even the Head Tech guy also not able to trace the problem.

All I can say is, never ever call from a Mobile Phone asking to trouble shoot as you will get a huge bill for call waiting;

This story I have heard from many..see whether this is familiar to you.. :o

"Our XXXX busy..please hold on.." after 10 sometimes 15 minutes; a girl answers the phone..not even able to ask who is calling in English..

then you will hear.."Sakruna ka"..then go on..another call waiting..Some girl with little ability to understand English will say.."pls speak slow..English nit noy" then suddenly say..."Sakruna ka"..then go on..another call waiting"

After another 2 , 3 rounds of "Sakruna ka". you will hear a guy trying to understand English and not the Problem...

Then here you go frustrated and to the head of the section..a Smart A** who know that non of his people can not understand english finally gets into the picture..

Then the answer will be, "The problem is your side and our side is clean".

If you keep on talking..then again "Sakruna karb...and you will see the line gets automatically disconnected..

Then you will feel so much frustrated and decide to call a friend instead wasting more time and money and try to find a guy like ######, Francois etc.. and manage to sort the problem by yourself..

or go to the front door Internet shop and put a new post to this forum asking for help.

I have been thinking to your problem a bit ...

is there any hidden options in this "tweak-prog" of yours, BoostXp?

because sometimes ... this kind of "booster" do some tricks and in an overall, most of them do some good job (never as good as what you can do by yourself),

but if ... any dial-up menu, check that everything is correctly configured.

that could be a first thing to do ...

you have to take in count also that probably the line you are using is a shared one ...

which is far to be the best :o
