Briton Jeff Savage Freed By Thai Court

Featured Replies

Surely these incidents are far worse than an idiot mouthing off ?

Yes they certainly are, but they are done by home grown idiots.

No nation should have to put up with imports doing the same.

Nonsense. All idiots, foreign and domestic, should be equally free to demonstrate their idiocy.

Like in my country, where we let all the idiots (even the foreign ones) run around and say whatever they want.

Just a thought

This idiot wasn't convicted because he demonstrated his idiocy, he was convicted because he broke the law - numerous times

and the real criminals who burned bangkok ... FREEEEEE

and the leaders ... FREEEEEE

yeah, take the small stupid shrimp

Not to mention those that sat in the airport for days on end......but we won't go into that eh.

1 off topic post deleted. We're not going discuss immigration policies of other countries here. :)

Edit:

and a response to it as well.

This saved Thailand some bad press and situation they didn't want or need.

Probably told him to plead guilty and you'll be quietly sent home, or go to trial and face years.

Wonder how the Aussie loud mouth is going to get on. He certainly failed the attitude test.

My bad, won't happen again :jap:

Do you realize how boring places like North Dakota would become if we outlawed instances of stupidity?

They aren't outlawed in ND. just the stupidest and most dangerous are regulated....

ND is a bit boring even with them free to be dumb and dumber.

In the USA people are still not allowed to actively try to bring down the government via violence.

And those that said they are going to take down Bush or Obama or FDR found themselves

taken and held for a thorough looks see. And more so in emergency situations.

Free speach and opinion is great, up to a point then it becomes dangerous.

Fortunately only the 'real head cases' seem to ever thinking going to that point makes sense.

Foreigners in most countries, including Thailand,

have the right to prove to all and sundry than they are total ignorami,

but not to aid and abet insurrection and political violence.

time to throw the "gentleman" out of the country and never let him back in again

people are getting blacklisted for less so time to do the same here

just my 2 cents

PS: he should have thought about his family before he made his remarks

Yes he was an idiot with a big mouth but thank god there are Brits, Europeans and many other foreign nationals without big mouths who refuse to be silenced in foreign lands by the threat of "being dealt with!" Where would we be without insight and reporting from the majority of well intentioned journalists, NGOs, Humanitarian organisations and civilians willing to to put their lives and liberty on the line.

Perhaps this is a case of regaining a sense of proportion in dealing with small fry. I'd have thought the Thai authorities had everything to gain by taking a fairly relaxed view. While I don't have a great deal of sympathy for Jeff, I do have a suspicion that Thailand sometimes doesn't live up to 'international standards' in areas concerning foreigners' rights. A Thai man with a British wife and children in the UK(yes, there are a few) would have to do something pretty drastic before his options were reduced to emigrating as a family or splitting up. I suspect that there are problems relating to drink/drugs/psychological instability in this case, but it amounts to little more than the kind of oafish behaviour that civilised western states take in their stride.

Get a grip....you think he is along those lines?

because of his even more public speaches the Aussie may land a holiday at "BANGKOK HILTON"

this is not about freedom of speach - its about making hate speaches intended to make

the listeners go on a rampage torching half of Bangkok

Another news source is saying he is to be deported in the next few days.

Good, what a total moron, should have caned him.

On the other hand, if he has kids, he wil want to bring them along with his wife to England. Presuming the kifs are in school and grew up in Isaan, they will now pay the prize for this by losing their entire universe, effectively paying the prize for daddy's stupidity.

With this in mind, if I was the judge I'd grant the idiot one more chance to remain in Thailand.

I think the children would be much better off without this kind of person as a role model in their life. If he cares for his family he can bring take them to the UK.

Not at all! If you actually read my comment you'd have seen that. My point is anyone should have the right to make a stand in any country and thank god people do even with the threat of "being dealt with!". Amnesty International have accused the Thai government of using excessive force against civilians which has damaged Thailand's credibility much more than a wannabe anarchist!

It's a surprisingly short penalty. My guess is that he has also provided useful information about other people involved and cut a deal.

Was he sentenced already?

Didn't realize the Thai courts are so quick or is that special treatment?

If he is blacklisted he can never return to Thailand. Considering he has got his family here, that's as good as prison.

I feel sorry both for him and his family. Lifechanging stuff. <deleted>**, there's a bunch of sleepless nights right there...

Thats not true, if you get deported you can come straight back. I know a guy who got deported and bought a return ticket.

Black listed.. .change your name, new passport.

This guys face is well known now, wouldnt be comfortable for him back in Thailand though. Many Thais and expats hate his guts.

Id like to kick him in the balls for being such a p*** and making us all look like low-class thugs.

It is not up to the judge, it is an automatic consequence of being convicted.

Are you sure about that? I am sure I have heard stories before of people serving their time for some crime or other, then continuing to live here after their release.

One of the reports says he is being deported for overstaying his visa.

Losing their "entire universe",... a life being raised in Issaan country,.. oh what a grave loss that would be!

It's a surprisingly short penalty. My guess is that he has also provided useful information about other people involved and cut a deal.

Are you mad? 1.5 months for talking crap without acting on it is a rough sentence. The guy was obviously drunk and stoned on something at the time which the video clearly shows. In the countries where the majority of us come from the police would lock you up overnight to sleep it off, put you in front of a magistrate the next day and let you go with a fine! He wasn't an illegal immigrant, just a bit foolish!

Quite.

But as you are not the judge.........................

I don't know fellow posters... For sure, he was aggressive and needlessly course in his mini speeches. Expressing such while throwing down a stick in obvious contempt during a nationally declared state of emergency didn't help his cause either. Nor his agressiveness and mouthing off as he approached the Thai courts. Yet he still did so. Was he just plain stupid... , misguided.... or so empassioned that even knowing the consequences of his actions... he nevertheless went ahead anyway ? For those of us who live here, we experience Thailand's strengths and challenges on a daily basis. I really do wonder if we do our share in possitively contributing to the challenges many many people face here rather than just keep our heads down and mouths shut for the sake of a quiet and respectfully legal existance. I deplore Mr. Savege's tactics, and yet I also wonder whether his sacrifice will do more for the good of this Country's people than our TV rhetoric. I will think it brilliant if you tell all TV posters how you're making this country so much better for its poor and under priviledged. No joke. Spread the word about how you really help in a possitive and 'non Mr. Savage' way !

He is very fortunate to be released with 45 days served. Is he being deported as well?

Id like to kick him in the balls for being such a p*** and making us all look like low-class thugs.

But he wasn't jailed for 1.5 months for talking crap without acting. He was jailed for violating state of emergency rules. It was only because of his big mouth that he was found but he wasn't sentenced because of what the mouth did...

Savage by name & nature! Farewell. Try Southend - bags of aggro there.

Now let's also round up all the hatchet-faced farang mini-Fuehrers who were calling for napalm attacks on the redshirts. Let's send them home too. There they can dine on rat poison, washed down with vinegar, join the local Brownshirts, & hang & flog the likes of young Savage. That should make both them & Thailand happier.

Cheers. OGT

Big mistake.

This terrorist, robber and arsonist should be lock away for good.
