Details of 100m Facebook users collected and published

Personal details of 100m Facebook users have been collected and published on the net by a security consultant.

Ron Bowles used a piece of code to scan Facebook profiles, collecting data not hidden by the user's privacy settings.

The list, which has been shared as a downloadable file, contains the URL of every searchable Facebook user's profile, their name and unique ID.

Mr Bowles said he ... http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-10796584

This is why I have deleted every invite I ever got from facebook and other sites. Worse virus to ever hit the internets.

Facebbok write in its privacy statement, to which you agree before sign in, that it will use (not protect) your private data, so what is the question????

All he has got is a long list of people and the data that is available to everyone. Okay 100m is a lot of people, but it is of little use, it's just a publicity stunt. The most useful piece of information would be their email address, but as this is set to view by friends only, by default, he does not list it.

If you use the API all this information listed by this Muppet is available to you. If you look at the BBC's history for some reason they like to publish negative stories about Facebook. Maybe a week after Facebook announces 500m accounts someone at the Beeb is jealous.

Personally I think Facebook should by default make all data private, and then allow the user to share as much or as little as they wish. Looking at the update to the story it is as I first said merely a publicity stunt, 2.8Gb of useless information that over 3500 people are currently seeding on Piratebay.

no big deal, as long as you never provide your REAL personal data ;)

Why use Facebook when we got ThaiVisa. ;)
