Government Crackdown On Non Tax Paying Online Busineses/ Websites

Featured Replies

Mrs Man told me today that in the Thai news that the govt said they were going to start looking for online business that don't pay tax. Anyone here anything about this?

not sure about a crack-down, but if it is a business and makes profits it should pay taxes, right?

Online stores are one thing as they will have assets and stock and cashflow in to buy the stock/rent warehouse etc. However, how to you find online services (like dating agencies etc) - they can have online banking, no assets, overseas servers and may not be registered in LoS (or anywhere). How do you prove they are liable for Thai taxes?

If the business is not registered in Thailand and you are performing work for it...how do you obtain a work permit?

I think it is more of the "freelance" type workers they are trying to crackdown on . . . those that 'work' here fulltime doing internet related work both within and outside Thailand but never pay taxes and don't have a WP etc. Don't think that they are really interested in helping you get a WP, simply cracking down on the existing rules here in Thailand with regards to working and needing a WP.
