What's the latest on that story I read here a while ago about the british embassy getting an outside agency to handle visa applications? When will it come into effect? Also, what is the current waiting time between application date and getting a settlement visa (provided the interview is a success)?

I spoke to an american guy who has a Russian wife, he said that although the waiting time should have been three months it took him nine to get his wife visa to the states - does stuff like that ever happen at the Brit Em?

If I recall correctly, the tendering phase should be finishing about now with a view to the admin being outsourced from September. The waiting time between application and interview (if one is deemed necessary) currently appears to be at about the 3-month mark and a decision is made on the day of the interview, so such a situation as you described with the Russian going to the US shouldn't arise.

i don't know how long the wait should be at the Brit Em but my Mrs and I applied for a settlement visa at the beginning of May and have been given an interview date for the end of Sept. Almost 5 months. As for ther outsourcing, i concur with Scouse. However, in my experience of outsourcing (and i've had quite alot) there are going to be teething problems at the start.
