Buying A New Desktop Pc

Featured Replies

My old desktop is playing up, so i think its time to buy a new one.

Can anbody recomend which model to buy, want to spend 20,000bht max, would prefer a brand name rather than a custom build?

I really only use the PC for inet stuff, & a few letters, but i like a fast machine, very, very rarely ever play games.

I only need the PC box, my LCD screen is perfect.

Is the Intel Pentium Duo core the way to go??

I do have a notebook but not really into using that on a full time basis.

Not too Technical please!!

If you keen on a pre built this HP sold by invadeIt is not too bad for the money.

HP Pavilion P6682L Intel Core i5-650/2GB DDR3/640GB/ATi Radeon HD5450

Clicky Clicky.

If you have the laptop why not buy a USB keyboard for it and let it drive your LCD if you want it to look/feel like a desktop?

I bought an Acer E-Machine box last year (6k) for children and it runs really well and case is much smaller than the normal box but nor sure if this is still available in Thailand (think they were losing money).

But if buying a desktop today would probably go for a touch screen unit (which would require the screen).

Thanks for that info.

My Thai travel agent has just bought himsel an Acer emachine, as you say small box what i really liked, he paid around 15K including screen keyboard & mouse.

The touch screen PC's look nice, never seen one in real life, only seen in brouchure, will look at one of those, but appear to be around 25K, bit more than i would like to pay?

I previously had a problem with an HP printer, & i took it to there HQ in BKK to get repaired, 24 hours later they phoned to say it was fixed, went to collect it & asked them to test it while i was there, still exactly the same problem, they had no idea what to do. I stil have a cheap new HP printer, but not keen on buying an HP or Compaq desktop after this.

My only comment would be to make sure you buy from a proper Computer store and NOT be tempted by the deals in Supermarkets like Tesco and Big C, as once you walk out the store they couldnt careless if you have problems and will just refer you to the manufacturer or some local "Mr Fix it" and you're on your own to sort it out.

And you think it is different buying at an IT store? Once out the door you are on your own unless it is a very quick fix. As for computer shops they come and go like the wind. You may be lucky and find a good shop but you may also get the same cold shoulder as elsewhere.

I prevoisly bought an Acer desktop in a shop in BKK for my office here in Pattaya, they loaded windows on it when i bought it. It was working great then one morning i turned it on & an error message came on the screen saying my Windows would expire in 20 days, silly me i didn't take much notice, 20 days later computer wouldn't open, Got my Thai IT guy to look at it & he said it was a trial copy of Windows, we phoned the shop in Bkk they completley denied loading it.

At the end of the day the harddrive locked & my IT guy couldn't FREE it, we ended up having to take out Hard disk & sent it to ACER local office, who unlocked it & re-formated it for FREE under the gurantee, so i was without the use of my new PC at my office for approx 10 days.

Luckly enough i had everything backed up on my notebook & home desktop, so was pretty lucky
