This one is said to have a drive up window.

That would be interesting to see it work, judging by the carpark chaos there it could be a long wait.

There'll be five? Where are the others? I know the ones at carrefour and night bazaar - where else?

Sounds good to me. They do look somewhat underfeed.

When I was in Hong Kong last the Mc'Ds was cheaper than noodle shops, I cant see it replacing Somtam here when a burger alone is 3 times the price.

I doubt there would be a long wait at the drive-through... The Mcdonalds near Nakorn Sawan has very few drive-ups...

Burgers are crap.

But I quite like the breakfast muffins and hash browns :)

I always leave my views on international capitalism at the door when tucking into a Big Mac & Fries. There's only so many bowls of noodles a Farang stomach can take!!!

But I quite like the breakfast muffins and hash browns :)

Me too, I miss their pancakes that seem to be sold in every other country.

I will admit that there are much better Western breakfasts in Chiang Mai, but McD's are great when traveling in expensive countries where a breakfast will often be three or four times more expensive and not much better.

Haven't eaten at McD in a decade or more, anywhere. Not my cup of tea, but obviously there must be a market for this product.

Don't really see the problem- I would guess that the local franchisee is sourcing 90+ % of product locally, and 100% of employees locally as well.

Glad to see that one company at least is confident in Chiang Mai as a business destination.

Marco's and The Duke's are packed every night. They should be confident too. :)

It's all good.

Business is good.

It provides jobs, and a ladder up for people who might not have other opportunities.

"Would you like to have fries with your order, sir?"

To wax philosophic, I used to be an angry consumer, disturbed by the hegemony of my local utility company, San Diego Gas & Electric. Always was pissed off how they kept raising rates, etc.

About 20 years ago, I decided to invest in the companies that (I thought at the time) were abusing me as a customer.

Funny thing happened. My anger level went way down- and I made a lot of money as a shareholder.

I don't have to eat their hamburgers, or approve of their nuclear power generation, or buy their oil or other miscellaneous widgets.

Long as they make money, and pass it on to me via bonds or shares- works for me.:)

Of course the McD's, BK's, KFC's, etc. don't help, but I blame the 7-Elevens for being the first to start the Thais on to their newfound lives of fatness. annoyed.gif

mcdonalds is booming.my stock is up 27%.Plus I make 3.5% interest on the dividends. They have some of the best marketing techniques.

Ya may call them anyway ya want but millions of people eat their food on A regular basis and enjoy it.

A wife says to her husband you're always pushing me around and talking

behind my back. He says what do you expect? You're in a wheel chair.

True but wait to see what happens once McD goes budget an all Thais can afford it. The land of smiles will turn into Florida in no time.

Sure. And 10 years ago the housing market was booming. In the long term, maybe it will go up, maybe it will go down, who knows. My own investments have significantly outperformed McD so not too sorry for myself there.

You have to hand it to McD though - they're pretty flexible. When healthy foods became trendy I was sure they'd suffer - instead, they opened salad bars and diversified into breakfast and coffee.

Even the high price strategy might work in their favor in Thailand, as they've established themselves as a high quality place (irony of ironies right there). When my wife grew up in BKK, going to McD was "special" and very expensive. That's the way to build a good brand - start on the top and then spread out.

Would be good to see a Burger King instead though. Their cheeseburgers are pretty tasty.

Mcdonald's fare is infamous for continuing a world-wide lust for dietary fats - meats and oils.

However, getting "fat" in Thailand presently involves a lot of sugar. Sugared natural juices, beverages of all sorts, the burgeoning "sweets" counters <remember the sugar crisis?>.

It is purely my speculation (doubtless the worst sort), but reduce sugars from their diets, and I believe that Thais would slim down. Sedentary life-style activities contribute too, of course.

Traffic pattern at that Mee Chok (plaza) is to be changed; everyone enters from 1001, exits on middle ring road. Parking is to be angular in order to help backing out, but many will have to park to the west, as the new structures have removed so much area for parking. Rents will increase to shops as service fees. Bring baht.

:Raum Chok to remain the same..

I'm hoping for one of these.
